BMW Group India introduced the BMW i4 electric sedan to the country on 26th May 2022. It is their third electric vehicle in India, following the previously launched BMW iX electric SUV and Mini Electric. Starting at an initial cost of Rs. 72.50 lakh (ex-showroom price), the i4 is being marketed as the first electric sedan in India's premium mid-size sedan segment. The BMW i4 will be India's longest-range electric car, with a claimed driving range of up to 590 km. on one charge.

The i4 looks sharp and sporty, showing all the unique details of BMW's electric cars. This car is based on the new 4 Series model but has some changes, like a unique kidney grille for electric vehicles, LED headlights, and a blue colour around the BMW logo. The car also has L-shaped LED taillights. You can choose the vehicle in one of four colours: Mineral White, Brooklyn Grey Black Sapphire, and Portimao Blue.

Inside, the BMW i4 has Perforated Sensatec seats in colours like Canberra Beige. In front, there are sporty seats for driver and passenger, while at the back, there is a bench seat that can split into 40/20/40 parts. The main attraction is, of course, the cockpit designed with the driver in mind. It has a BMW curved display that shows two screens - one for information, which is 12.3 inches, and another for controls, which is 14.9 inches. These two screens join together without any edges and look like just one screen. The entertainment system inside uses iDrive 8 software and can get updates through over-the-air technology.

The BMW i4 comes with the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. It has an integrated drive unit inside one housing, powered by an electric motor, single-speed transmission, and power electronics. The i4 is the electric version of the 4 Series Gran Coupe (not available in India), and this 4-door coupe itself comes from the 3 Series that we are aware of. In India, they have only the eDrive35 and the eDrive40 model of i4, which has a rear-mounted motor driving the rear wheels. This electric synchronous motor has strong power, giving 282 bhp and 430Nm. As claimed, it can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just about 5.7 seconds. The motor gets its energy from a 70.2 kWh (eDrive35) and 83.9 kWh (eDrive40) lithium-ion battery pack under the floor. These battery packs offer a driving range of up to 590 km. on the WLTP cycle.

Charging the electric BMW i4 couldn't be easier. The Connected Charging service locates the nearest charging station along your journey, allowing you to charge your fully electric BMW i4 when needed - and go from 10 to 80% charge in just 40 minutes with up to 205 kW charging power. Alternatively, you may get up to 164 km. of range in just 10 minutes. It is convenient to use your BMW Wallbox at home. With up to 11 kW, it recharges the BMW i4 battery to 100% in 8.25 hours. 

BMW i4 Transmission

The BMW i4 use a one-speed automatic transmission, which is common in electric cars. The direct drive system gives smooth and immediate power from the electric motor, making driving more efficient and dynamic.
