BMW i7 Range

The BMW i7 has a 101.7kWh battery pack and offers two powertrain options. The xDrive60 variant features an electric motor delivering 536 bhp and 745 Nm of torque, providing a range of up to 625 km on a single charge. However, the following factors can influence this range. 

• Speed and driving style: Higher speeds use more energy, decreasing your electric vehicle's range. Stick to the speed limit and avoid excessive high-speed driving. Aggressive driving, such as quick acceleration and braking, can deplete the battery more quickly. To optimise your range, drive smoothly and maintain a steady speed.

• Tyre pressure: Lower rolling resistance of tyres directly affects an EV's range. Less resistance means the electric car requires less energy to move, thus extending the battery range. Numerous EVs are equipped with low-rolling-resistance tyres designed to optimise efficiency. Regularly checking and maintaining the correct tyre pressure is crucial for optimising battery life in electric vehicles. Underinflated tyres increase rolling resistance, leading to higher power consumption and quicker battery drainage.

• Weather: Extreme temperatures can significantly impact the range of electric vehicles (EVs) for two main reasons. Very low temperatures can adversely affect the ability of an EV battery to retain its charge. Freezing temperatures can impact both the efficiency and the capability of rapid charging. Operating your EV in extreme climates impacts your cabin climate controls, affecting range by consuming battery power.

• Charge Capacity: EV range is affected by battery charge capacity. Automakers use sophisticated battery systems to limit maximum charge and extend battery life. As a result, EVs are not typically charged to full capacity. It is crucial to consider rapid-charge stations that can bring an EV up to 80% in just 30 minutes on longer trips.

• Battery Age: As batteries age, they gradually lose their maximum charge potential. However, the degradation rate is only around 2.3% annually, and proper maintenance can further reduce it.
