The BMW M340i Sedan blends elegance and top-notch performance with a conventional yet futuristic design. It is a top-of-the-line 3 Series model first introduced in 2021. The facelift, launched in December 2022, offers more power and a much more modern exterior aesthetic. It is the first M-engine-powered, high-performance BMW produced in India. Because of its impressive performance, appealing design, extensive feature set, and distinctive M driving experience, the vehicle is a segment best-seller. There is only one variant of this model available. 

The new BMW M340i has an aggressive front fascia and a sporty external appearance. The sleek Adaptive LED headlights with blue highlights are connected to the black mesh-type BMW kidney grille, which is framed by a single surround. When viewed from the side, the car's hood, long wheelbase, minimal overhangs, and gracefully flowing roofline highlight its athletic character. The diamond-polished and jet-black 19-inch M light alloy wheels with a ‘791 M design’ offer the appearance of a highly motivated racing vehicle.

Luxury, cosiness, and the feeling of reverence surrounding M are highlighted throughout the interior. The first thing that caught my attention was the updated digital version of the BMW Curved Display. A clear, simplified design, striking graphics, contemporary, vibrant colours, futuristic textures, and the interaction of reflections produce an immersive visual appearance. Sport seats with Sensatec/Alcantara trim and M-specific upholstery offer superb lateral support and a wide range of adjustment. The infotainment features are also top-notch. 

It sports a 14.9-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch instrument panel. It also has a panoramic roof, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with 464 watts of power, ambient lighting, and wireless phone charging. 

The BMW M340i is powered by a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder petrol engine with 500 Nm of torque and 382 bhp. The engine is linked to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport gearbox, which is also included with the BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The sedan is the fastest BMW ever made in the nation, taking just 4.4 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h.

It also has a five-star safety rating from NCAP, and standard safety features include six airbags, an Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) with Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), and ISOFIX child seat mounting.

The driver's side exterior mirror features an automated anti-dazzle feature, while the passenger side exterior mirror has a parking function. The cabin decor highlights luxury, cosiness, and a sense of reverence. The new digital BMW Curved Display is the first feature to draw attention. It blends in perfectly with the cockpit area, giving the impression that it is floating. Sport seats with Sensatec/Alcantara trim and M-specific upholstery offer superb lateral support and a wide range of adjustment. When combined with an M leather steering wheel and shift paddles, the seats resemble those of a race vehicle. M High Gloss Shadowline, Individual Headliner Anthracite, and inside carbon fibre trim strips enhance the performance-oriented atmosphere.

It has a dual display: a 14.9-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch instrument panel. The model lettering "M340i" is shown on the front door sills and digital instrument cluster. The Welcome Light Carpet, projected from the side sill, elegantly greets passengers. The freestanding 14.9-inch BMW Curved Display with Navigation, the 12.3-inch digital information display behind the steering wheel, and the BMW Head-up Display are all part of the BMW Live Cockpit Plus.

The BMW Live Cockpit Professional on the widescreen Curved Display has the latest BMW Operating System 8.0 with variable configurable widgets. The Smartphone integration seamlessly connects with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It offers navigation functions with RTTI and 3D maps, touch functionality, iDrive Touch with handwriting recognition and direct access buttons, and voice control.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is a beneficial addition to it. The M340i is powered by a 2998cc six-cylinder petrol engine producing a maximum output of 382 bhp @ 5500–6500 rpm and a maximum torque of 500 Nm @ 1900–5000 rpm. The BMW TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine can take the car from 0 to 100km/h in 4.4 seconds, which is one of the fastest in its segment. The fuel tank capacity is 59 litres. Its top speed is 250 km/h.

The BMW M340i has earned a five-star safety rating from NCAP. Six airbags, Attentiveness Assistance, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with Brake Assist, Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Runflat tyres with a Tire Pressure Indicator, ISOFIX child seat mounting, and an integrated emergency spare wheel are just a few of the safety features offered by BMW. BMW M340i: Old vs Facelift

The 2023 BMW M340i made its debut in Delhi on December 10, 2022. The facelift includes numerous cosmetic changes, a redesigned interior, and a mildly hybrid drivetrain. This section will highlight the major differences between the facelift and the outgoing model. 

Exterior

The M340i sports a revised snout that houses slimmer headlamps with LED DRLs shaped like an inverted L with blue accents. The kidney grille has a blacked-out finish with a mesh pattern to help distinguish the M340i from the standard 3. Its appearance has changed, resembling more muscular and unique from the ground up. The kidney grille's interior now has a chrome frame.

The front and back bumpers are also new. With the significantly bigger air intake, the front bumper now has quite an aggressive, sporty appearance. The taillights at the back are virtually unchanged, but the bumper now features a larger glossy black section with vertical reflectors and a meaner diffuser. The M340i's dimensions have changed, becoming 4 mm longer. The pre-facelift 18-inch alloys have been replaced with new 19-inch ones with a self-centering BMW logo, and the ORVM housings have been designed to resemble those on the M3/M4.

Interior

With the M340i, BMW's newest curved display premiered in India. The new BMW curved display combines a 12.3-inch driver's display and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen into a single floating panel. The screens include all contemporary connectivity options and run the most recent OS8 version of the iDrive. Furthermore, black Sensatec and Alcantara upholstery with blue accent stitching is used throughout the interior.

Features

The iDrive OS is updated for this BMW Live Cockpit Plus setup. The features of the outgoing model are carried over into the new M340i. It still has the M340i lettering on the door sills and driver display, an electric sunroof, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, three-zone temperature control, M Sport brakes, M Sport suspension, Digital key plus, parking and reversing assistance, and six airbags.

Engine and Gearbox

The heart of this high-performance sedan is a 2998cc turbocharged straight-six petrol engine, and the revised M340i keeps the same reliable engine. However, it now includes a 48-volt mild hybrid system. The engine produces a maximum torque of 500 Nm @ 1900–5000 rpm and an output of 382 bhp @ 5500–6500 rpm. 

It is mated to the same eight-speed Steptronic sport automatic transmission. Meanwhile, it boasts a top speed of 250 km/h and claims to go from zero to 100 kmph in just 4.4 seconds. But this specification does come with the M Sport exhaust.
