About BMW M8

The BMW M8 is available internationally in Coupe, convertible, and four-door Gran Coupe body styles. In India, the 2023 BMW M8 comes in the coupe competition trim level, which is a four-seater car launched on 1st April 2023. The BMW M8 Coupe Competition is instantly recognisable because of its powerful forms, roomy, attractive surfaces, aerodynamically optimised lines, and M-specific design elements tailored to the practical needs of a high-performance sports vehicle. The ‘50 Jahre M’ Edition is a result of the 50th-anniversary celebrations of the iconic BMW M GmbH.

Striking features of the exteriors include the BMW laser light, the kidney grille frame, exterior trim and slats in high-gloss black, and the sloping M carbon roof. The frameless doors and 20-inch light alloy wheels in jet black further elevate the futuristic design language of the M8. The interior cabin space is equally abundant with premium Merino leather upholstery, M Sport seats and belts, and an M leather steering wheel.

In the driver's dashboard shines a fully digital 12.3-inch Instrument Display and a 12.3-inch Control Display. The steering wheel has individually configurable M1/M2 buttons, and competition badging adds to the motor racing aesthetic. It also includes A full-colour BMW head-up display and a Harman Kardon surround sound system, among other infotainment features.

Under the hood, the M8 is powered by a 4395cc petrol engine that offers a mileage of 8.7 km/l and is coupled with the 8-speed M Steptronic Sport Automatic Transmission. In terms of safety, the car has six airbags, an anti-lock brake system with brake assist, attentiveness assistant, active protection, and BMW condition-based Service as standard features.

BMW M8: Quick Review

This section will provide a detailed description of the design elements and features of the BMW M8. It will cover key areas like exterior design, interior features, engine, transmission, and performance.

Exterior Design

In the case of the BMW M8 Coupe, motorsport and styling are closely related. The coupe's frameless doors and sloping roofline communicate the ideal balance of style and performance. The amount of power hidden beneath the hood is conveyed by a few precisely drawn surface lines. The kidney grille, shaped like a hexagon and with M-shaped double slats, stands out between the BMW Laserlight's recognisable four-eye face. The size of the air intake widens towards the bottom, demonstrating the enormous cooling requirements of the brakes and high-performance engine.

The M carbon-fibre roof's incredibly light and torsion-resistant carbon fibre material adds contemporary technological value to the aerodynamic design while reducing weight. The sharknose's steep slant, the extra-large air curtains, and the sparse but striking lines enhance the unequalled aerodynamics from the side perspective. Track width and wheel size are highlighted by the M8 Competition designation and flared aluminium wings with M gills. Racing ambitions are highlighted by the M-specific double-flow exhaust system with quad tailpipes, M-specific M8 rear diffuser, and rear spoiler lip.

Furthermore, the M Carbon exterior package—which is standard on the new M8—is being made available in India for the first time. With the addition of carbon fibre material to the front bumper, side air intake, external mirror caps, rear spoiler, and rear diffuser, the M Carbon exterior kit completely transforms the exterior parts. The M8's handling is further improved, and its weight and aerodynamic drag are decreased.

Other features include the automated light operation, Special ‘50 Jahre M’ Emblem, welcome light carpet, comfort access system, sun protection glazing, rain sensor and automatic driving lights controls, and the M Compound brakes in red high-gloss.

Interior and Features

The BMW M8's driver-focused cabin space is a dedication to both extreme grandeur and sportiness. The door sill's M8 Competition writing sets the stage for an exhilarating atmosphere as soon as you walk in. The controls are arranged into functional groups for the driver and front passenger, who sit in a sporty, low position.

Side bolsters enhance the newly designed M Sport Seat’s exceptional comfort and grip, enabling the driver and passenger to maintain optimal form when accelerating around curves. A distinctive LED 'M8' insignia in the headrest and an exclusive two-tone full leather 'Merino' upholstery with hexagonal embroidery in the seat's central section visually emphasise this claim.

More room and flexibility for loading and unloading are provided by the 40:20:40 split backrest and the automated boot lid operation, while comfort access allows for hands-free opening and shutting. Ambient lighting comes in six different dimmable designs to suit any mood. With its clear, rich, and accurate sound, the 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio experience elevates every musical feeling to the level of an acoustic epiphany.

Numerous BMW ConnectedDrive innovations, including wireless charging, wireless Apple CarPlay, head-up display, display key, gesture control, and wireless charging, are continuing to push the boundaries of innovation in the automotive sector. Under the most recent version of the BMW Operating System 7.0, the cutting-edge BMW Live Cockpit Professional boasts a 12.3-inch digital instrument display behind the steering wheel, a 12.3-inch Control Display, and 3D navigation.

Other features include the full-colour BMW Head-up display, Parking Assistant Plus,  Rear-View Camera, Surround View Cameras with 360-degree view including top view, panorama view, and 3D view, and Telephony with wireless charging with extensive functions.

BMW M8: Old vs Facelift

The 2023 BMW M8 Coupe was launched on 1st April 2023. After three years on the market, BMW discontinued the standard-issue M8 for the 2023 model year. Now, the M8 will only come in its Coupe Competition variant. The facelift includes some changes in the exterior and interior, which make it even more sporty and luxurious. This section will highlight the key differences between the facelift M8 and the outgoing model.

Exterior

The 2023 models get a minor redesign that includes a new grille called ‘Iconic Glow.’ The grille is lit up to produce a dramatic impression when the new BMW 8-Series is viewed from the front. There are upgraded wheels, a new colour scheme, and altered intakes, among other little improvements. In celebration of BMW M's 50th anniversary, M8 models also get aerodynamically improved M mirrors and the option to have a vintage BMW Motorsport emblem added to the hood, trunk, and wheels.

Interior

The interior changes are minimal. The only noticeable change is the instrument cluster. Its current span of 12.3 inches is a significant advance over its 10.25-inch forerunner.

Features

The top-notch infotainment and safety features are carried forward from the outgoing model and remain the same.

Engine and Gearbox

The BMW M8 Coupe competition continues to be powered by the same M TwinPower Turbo 8-cylinder 4395cc engine that offers a maximum power of 616.87 bhp @ 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 750 Nm @ 1800-5600 rpm.
