The BMW X1 is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV that integrates power and elegance in every aspect and shows courage in being different. The BMW X1 comes in diesel and petrol variants: the sDrive18i M Sport and the sDrive 18d M Sport. The wheel arch boundaries of the front and rear are joined by a character line that rises dynamically. The long roofline forms a spoiler that extends far over the back glass. It provides the profile with a long, athletically taut aspect, along with the shoulder line above the flush door openers that flow from the front wheel arches into the rear lights. 

The BMW X1's flared wheel arches, thin rear window, and horizontal lines at the back highlight the body's breadth. Style cues from the front are repeated in the rear bumper with a prominent trim plate and chrome side accents. The glass panoramic sunroof accentuates the exterior and interior ambience.

The luxury panel has a 10.25-inch digital driver's display and a 10.7-inch infotainment system. The frameless glass surface of the BMW Curved Display, which is inclined towards the driver, adds a sleek and contemporary focal point to the interior. Beneath it, the dashboard's large, horizontal ornamental surfacing draws attention to how wide the cabin is. Even distribution of fresh air throughout the cabin is ensured by slender air vents artfully incorporated into the dash, while side air vents are built into the A-pillars. BMW Maps, a Bluetooth interface, four USB-C connections, and a 12V power socket in the centre console and cargo area are all included with the standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus. Smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ensures peak assistance. There are twelve speakers in the optional Harman Kardon premium sound system, with tweeters built into the door trim beneath premium stainless-steel grilles. BMW X1 Engine CC (Capacity)

The sDrive18i M Sport is powered by a 1499cc engine offering a max power of 134.1 bhp @ 4400-6500 rpm and a max torque of 230 Nm @ 1500–4000 rpm. It can take the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds. 

The sDrive18d M Sport has a 1995cc engine offering a max power of 147.51 bhp @ 3750-4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 360 Nm @ 1500–2500 rpm. It ensures an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds. 

Both variants can reach a top speed of 210 km/h. 

BMW X1 Transmission

The sDrive18i M Sport has a 7-speed Steptronic Transmission with a double clutch.

The sDrive18d M Sport has a 7-speed Steptronic Sport Transmission with shift paddles.

BMW X1 Performance

There are two modes available besides the personal one: Efficient and Sports. Both variants have cruise control with a braking function, performance control, and servotronic steering assistance. They also have an electronic switch or lever, Auto-P function, automatic gear selection, a display of the currently engaged gear in the instrument cluster, shift paddles on the steering wheel, and a manual mode gear display with suggested gear.

The ARAI claimed mileage for the sDrive18i M Sport is 16.35 km/l, and the sDrive18d M Sport is 20.37 km/l.

Safety

The BMW X1 has robust safety features. It has secured the position of the prestigious IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation in 2023. It also has a five-star safety rating from NCAP. Standard safety features include ten airbags, driver assistance systems, PDC, and parking assistance. It also comes with an Attentiveness Assistant and ABS with Brake Assist. 

The BMW Condition-Based Service, Cornering Brake Control, DSC, including Dynamic Traction Control, PostCrash approach control warning with light braking function, Electronic Vehicle Immobiliser and crash sensor, and Integrated Emergency Spare wheel are other highlighting elements. BMW X1: Old vs Facelift

On 28th January 2023, at BMW Joytown Bengaluru, BMW India introduced the 2023 BMW X1 SUV to the Indian market. It is the third generation of the model and brings significant changes in terms of exteriors, interiors, and performance. This section will highlight the key differences between the facelift BMW X1 and the outgoing model. 

Exterior

The new X1 has a slightly broader grille than the previous model, a bumper with more angular creases and blacked-out inserts, slimmer headlamps, and new inverted L-shaped daytime running lamps. Overall, the design is best defined as an evolution. The SUV's smooth finish and flush door handles give it a distinctive look. 

The India-spec variant is equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels. Slim wraparound LED taillights and a sculpted tailgate with silver bumper inserts are seen on the back. It still looks like an X1, but it has a much more grown-up appearance. The front and rear bumpers of the M Sport models have a sportier look.

Interior

The X1's new curved infotainment display, which neatly rests atop the dashboard, is the largest interior improvement and has also made it possible to build a considerably cleaner dashboard, featuring new storage areas and a floating centre console that contains a few tactile buttons. In addition to being much more upscale than previously, the dash now perfectly integrates the tiny AC vents. According to BMW, the updated X1 has a roomier rear seat and a roomy 476-litre cargo.

Features

In terms of features and technology, the new X1 boasts a 10.70-inch infotainment screen, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive LED headlights, an automated tailgate and a parking assist feature. It also has a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Sports seats are standard on both versions, and the M Sport model also includes a front seat massaging feature.

Engine and Gearbox

In India, the new BMW X1 comes with a choice of petrol (sDrive18i) or diesel(sDrive18d) engines. The 1.5-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine generates 134.1 bhp and 230 Nm of torque, while the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine generates 147.51 bhp and 360 Nm of torque.
