The facelifted BMW X5 SUV has been introduced in India, priced from Rs. 96 Lakh - Rs. 1.11 Crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). This updated version arrives in India shortly after its global debut, boasting alterations to its design, enhanced technological features, and upgraded six-cylinder engines. The facelifted luxury SUV is offered in two variants - xLine and M Sport, both of which provide options for petrol and diesel engines.
Starting with its appearance, the X5 now exhibits a more angular design than its predecessor, featuring redesigned bumpers, sleeker headlights with modified DRLs, and new tail lamps. The grille has undergone subtle adjustments compared to the previous model, avoiding the oversized design seen in the flagship X7 SUV. Additionally, the model comes equipped with larger 21-inch wheels as standard.
Regarding its engine lineup, the X5 receives updated 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. These engines now incorporate 48V mild hybrid technology, delivering increased power outputs.

The upcoming section will explore the dimensions of the BMW X5, covering its interior and exterior design, performance capabilities, technological features, safety equipment, and other aspects.
When discussing a modern BMW, there's no better place to start than its grille. It's impressively large and can even illuminate at night to accentuate its presence, yet in proportion to the substantial body of this SUV, it feels just right. The new C-shaped LED Daytime Running Light signature now resembles BMW's classic Corona Rings, albeit in a modern interpretation, and they enhance the slim headlamp housings with their stylish blue accents. Similarly, the Hofmeister Kink that defines the D-pillar is more of a curve now but still maintains an appealing appearance. Like many luxury vehicles, the colour options are mostly monotone, including white, two blacks, and two greys, although there's a daring Tanzanite Blue Metallic for those feeling adventurous.
The M Sport trim boasts notably aggressive bumpers. At the same time, at the rear, the tail lamps sport a fresh three-dimensional design with indicator lights that 'pulse' when activated, eschewing the conventional swipe. As before, the tyre sizes are staggered from front to back, with the rear tyres boasting an impressive 315-section width akin to some supercars. However, the notable difference lies in their standard 21-inch wheels and tyres, a change that might affect the ride but undeniably complements the X5's aesthetic appeal.
For a mid-life refresh, it's remarkable how extensively BMW has revamped the dashboard. The traditional hooded binnacle has been replaced by BMW's curved dual-display unit – a 12.3-inch gauge cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen – positioned on the dash like a TV on a table.
At first glance, it may seem that the central AC vents have been eliminated, but they are concealed behind a piece of crystal-effect trim adorned with illuminated 'X5' text on the passenger side. The outer AC vents remain, reimagined in line with the X5's traditional 'stacked' design. However, despite the stylish appearance of the new control stalks for these AC vents, they prove somewhat unintuitive to operate, lacking clear feedback. The outer AC vents, meanwhile, feel slightly fragile.
Thankfully, this is the sole instance of underwhelming build quality within the interior, as the rest of the cabin is impeccably assembled. Authentic open-pore wood, sleek metallic trim, and supple leather harmonise seamlessly, though these conventional luxury elements contrast somewhat with the tech-centric utilisation of colours and screens.
The AC controls have been integrated into the touchscreen to streamline the cockpit visually, while the gear lever has been reduced to a toggle switch. While this approach appears tidy, performing simple tasks such as adjusting the fan speed becomes cumbersome while driving.
Even at its medium suspension height, entering the X5's cabin requires a considerable step up, and once inside the rear seats, there's abundant space, particularly in terms of width. The rear seats are positioned slightly higher than the front seats to offer comfort, albeit with a somewhat upright posture and lacking backrest adjustment.
Occupants might find themselves favouring the front seats, which provide extensive adjustment options and plush cushioning and now also feature heating and ventilation. While the option for a high, SUV-typical seating position is available, X5 owners may opt to lower it for a more enveloping, sportier ambience. The cabin's design, complemented by low window sills and now a lower dashboard, imparts a sense of openness, ensuring occupants don't feel overly confined.
The X5 has various engines, like 2993 cc diesel and 2998 cc petrol engines, so that you can tailor them to your driving needs. The BMW X5 offers two engines: a 3-litre turbocharged petrol engine, now delivering 375.78 bhp and 520 Nm of torque, and a 3-litre diesel unit producing 281.68 bhp and 650 Nm of torque. Both engines are equipped with 48V mild-hybrid technology to enhance performance.
The X5 also has an all-wheel drive, handy in inclement weather or off-roading. And, thanks to its eight-speed automatic transmission, the X5 is smooth and efficient.
As always, the 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox performs admirably. The engine adjustments have alleviated any hesitation in ordinary D mode. It now disappears into the background, allowing you to move around in a seamless, uninterrupted manner that fits well with the luxury credentials of an SUV like this one. In the Sportier settings, the gearbox performs admirably. It will immediately downshift to the appropriate gear and then securely transition across ratios.
Next comes the equally remarkable surge of performance. With electric assistance, there's almost no delay, and the X5 appears to accelerate smoothly from just above idle. From this point, a continuous build-up of 650 Nm @ 1500-2500 rpm torque and 281.68 bhp @ 4000 rpm max power intensifies. It enhances the engine's responsiveness in almost every scenario, creating a sensation of a significantly broader powerband than one would typically anticipate in a diesel engine. Consequently, there's a consistent sense of ample performance, as indicated by its 0 to 100 kmph time of 6.1 seconds. Moreover, the potent midrange ensures that this diesel X5 outpaces numerous vehicles with its rolling acceleration times of under 1.5 seconds.
The BMW X5 has excellent fuel economy for its class. The automatic petrol and automatic diesel engine models both offer a fuel efficiency of 12 kmpl. That's with the standard 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol and 3-litre diesel unit.
Fuel efficiency is just one of the numerous factors contributing to the widespread popularity of the BMW X5 as a luxury SUV. It offers ample space for passengers and cargo, delivers a comfortable ride, and boasts an extensive array of standard and optional features.
The BMW X5 has exceptional ground clearance, befitting its status as a premium SUV. With a minimal ground clearance of 216 mm, the vehicle can easily navigate varied terrains and obstacles. This substantial ride height improves off-road capabilities, resulting in a strong road presence and raised driving position. Furthermore, the BMW X5's sophisticated air suspension system provides for further ground clearance adjustment at the maximum level. This adaptability guarantees that the BMW can smoothly and rapidly move from challenging terrain to urban road conditions.
The BMW X5 has a large trunk area that can accommodate a variety of lifestyle and cargo demands. With all seats in place, the X5 has an astonishing 645 litres of cargo space, allowing you to transport baggage, sports equipment, or shopping bags comfortably. The 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats may be folded down to increase the cargo size to 1,870 litres. This impressive luggage volume lets you quickly transport significant things or prepare for long road journeys without sacrificing interior space. The X5's innovative storage solutions and practical design make it a versatile and valuable luxury SUV.
The BMW X5 has outstanding proportions, which add to its large and powerful presence. It is 4,922 mm long, 2,218 mm wide, and 1,745 mm tall, with considerable internal capacity for people and baggage. The wheelbase measures 2,819 mm, providing a solid and pleasant ride. With a ground clearance of 216 mm and a turning circle of 12.8 metres, the X5 is a flexible and practical luxury SUV that excels both on and off the road.
The BMW X5 is available in 6 colour options:
Skyscraper Grey Metallic
Mineral White Metallic
Tanzanite Blue Metallic
Brooklyn Grey Metallic
Black Sapphire Metallic
Carbon Black Metallic
On the safety front, there are eight airbags and many electronic safety features such as ESC, TCS, hill descent control, cornering brake control and tyre pressure monitoring. While the ADAS suite is limited, it does include certain active safety features like lane-keep assist, auto emergency braking, and driver fatigue recognition. Several other functions return, such as a 360-degree camera and parking assist. However, what's new is BMW's Drive Recorder function, which allows the car to reverse itself down a pre-recorded path if it's too difficult to do manually.
The BMW X5 stands out as a frontrunner in the luxury car segment, competing with rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q7, BMW X7, Volvo XC90, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and others in terms of both style and performance.
BMW introduced the refreshed BMW X5 SUV to the Indian market. The updated X5 is offered in two petrol and two diesel variants, with prices starting from Rs. 96 Lakh to 1.11 Crore (ex-showroom). Here's how the 2024 BMW X5 facelift stacks against the 2022 Pre-Facelift X5 model.
At the front, the BMW X5 showcases entirely redesigned headlights, which appear thinner and sportier, featuring new arrow-shaped lights within. Undoubtedly, they exude a more contemporary aesthetic, and in my opinion, they are an improvement. While the grilles retain their design, they no longer illuminate a detail that may delight customers. Beneath the grilles, the front air intakes adopt a more rectangular shape, accompanied by new vertical air vents under the headlights. As appealing as the pre-facelift model is, the updated version emerges as more handsome and sophisticated, securing the win up front.
The interior of the BMW X5 facelifts undoubtedly presents a more appealing appearance, attributed to the striking dual curved iDrive eight-screen, elegant wood trim, and the illuminated dashboard light bar. Nevertheless, physical climate controls can be challenging. It retains the rotary dial, unlike specific other BMW models (specifically, the X1). While I'll acknowledge the victory for the new BMW X5 here, it's by a narrow margin, considering that the outgoing model is slightly more ergonomic and user-friendly.
Between the two trims, there are distinct seat options available. The xLine variant has standard sport seats equipped with heating functionality, whereas the M Sport trim offers the comfort seat package featuring full electric adjustability, ventilation, and heating. Additional features on the X5 include a panoramic sunroof, an M Leather steering wheel, glass highlights on touch surfaces, a 360-degree camera, and a range of driver assistance systems such as cruise control, attentiveness assist, parking assist, and remote parking via smartphone.
The new X5 offers two engines: a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbo petrol engine delivering 375.78 bhp of power and 520 Nm of torque. BMW asserts that this engine can propel the SUV from 0-100 kmph in just 5.4 seconds. The alternative is a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine generating 281.68 bhp of power and 650 Nm of torque. According to BMW, this engine can accelerate the SUV from 0-100 kmph in just 6.1 seconds.
