The Mercedes-Benz GLA is a five-seater luxury SUV that combines premium looks, features and performance. The exteriors are athletic, with a radiator grille sporting the iconic Mercedes Star. The modelling and panelling along the sides give the SUV its modern silhouette. The LED headlamps have advanced functions for peak visibility.  

The interiors have premium upholstery, comfortable seats with memory functions, and ample storage space throughout the cabin. The Progressive Line features a multifunction sports steering wheel in leather in a 3-spoke design, with black-grained steering wheel shift paddles and touch control panels. It also has comfortable seats with luggage nets on the passenger and driver's sides and rear seat backs that fold in a 40/20/40 configuration. The comfort seats include complete height and length adjustments, as well as seat angles that can be changed. It has Velour floor mats. 

The AMG Line has a multifunction sports steering wheel in Nappa leather in a 3-double-spoke design. It has galvanised steering wheel shift paddles in silver chrome and touch control panels. The AMG Line gets Sports Seats. These are side-supporting seats with luggage nets on the driver and front passenger backrests and foldable rear seat backrests. All the front seats are electrically adjustable with a memory function. A 10.25-inch high-resolution touchscreen Central Media Display is the key connection between the car and the owner. It has an intelligent MBUX infotainment system, among other functions. The instrument cluster is configurable with a 10.25-inch diagonal screen. The ambient lighting offers 64 colour choices. The MBUX multimedia system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Mercedes-Benz GLA Engine Capacity

The GLA 200 has a 1332cc petrol engine, which is a 4-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 163 bhp@5500rpm and a maximum torque of 270Nm@2000-3500rpm. 

The GLA 220d 4MATIC of the Progressive and the AMG Line are diesel variants. Each has a 1950cc OM 651 DE 22 LA engine, which generates a maximum power of 190 bhp@3800rpm and maximum torque of 400Nm@1600-2600rpm. It is also a 4-cylinder engine. 

Mercedes-Benz GLA Transmission

The GLA 200 comes with a 7G-DCT automatic transmission. The GLA 220d 4MATIC comes with an 8G-DCT gearbox.

The GLA 200 can reach a top speed of 210 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds. The GLA 220d 4MATIC can reach a top speed of 219 km/h. The two variants can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds.

Safety 

The Mercedes-Benz GLA comes equipped with high-end safety amenities. The first in line are seven airbags laid around the cabin space for optimal protection. The Kneebag for the driver helps protect the legs in the event of a serious frontal crash. Standard features include ABS with EBD, central locking, Child Safety Locks, Day and night Rear View Mirror, Rear Camera with guidelines, Hill Assist, Impact Sensing Auto Door Unlock, and 360-View Camera. 

It also has a Seat Belt Warning, a Door-Ajar Warning, a Tyre Pressure Monitor, Blind Spot Assist, an Engine Immobiliser, and Electronic Stability Control. 

The Active Brake Assist identifies cars, pedestrians, and cyclists in danger zones to avoid accidents by optimising functions for city speeds and reacting to slower cars at higher speeds. The Pedestrian Protection-Active Bonnet is a sophisticated sensor system controlled by intelligent algorithms that trigger actuators if a pedestrian collides head-on with the GLA moving in the speed range of 25 to 55 km/h. It raises the bonnet to decrease the impact of the collision. 

The Car-to-X communication technology allows drivers to anticipate and respond to possible traffic hazards. Mercedes-Benz GLA: Old vs Facelift

The Mercedes-Benz GLA has received more of an addition through its 2024 facelift. It now comes in a Progressive Line and an AMG Line. The old model had a petrol version and a diesel version. The latter comes with only both petrol and diesel engines too. Let's take a look at what the new GLA offers. 

Exterior 

The GLA's shape is still the same, except for minor alterations. The revamped bumper's apron is finished in the same body colour as the headlamps and LED daytime running lamps shaped like eyebrows. The taillamps at the back have been updated with LED elements.

The AMG Line gets 19-inch light alloy wheels with body-colour wheel arches. The wheelbase is longer. It is also sportier with a prominent roof spoiler and taillight graphics. It gets the AMG rear apron in chrome. 

Interior

The interior changes include the steering wheel in Nappa Leather and Sports Seats for the AMG Line. The floor mats are also AMG-specific. 

Features

The twin 10.25-inch connected screens now have an updated MBUX software compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 360-degree camera is a new and welcoming addition.
