The recall will cover several models that were manufactured between 2020 and 2022.
Toyota has issued a worldwide recall of around 1.2 million units of its SUVs, sedans, and MPVs, reported Reuters. The issue is related to their front passenger airbag, and it might malfunction and not deploy in the time of need.
The affected models include the likes of Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Sienna MPV and RAV4. Along with the Lexus ES250, ES300H, ES350, and RX350. All affected models were manufactured between 2020 to 2022, so that includes a lot of vehicles in the market especially when you take into count the global market.
To be more specific, the fault lies in a sensor that Toyota installed to ensure that the safety bags don’t deploy if it detects a small adult or child seated in the front passenger seat. These new sensors were deployed to tackle the problem of older airbags which would deploy the same way for both driver and passenger which led to several cases of injuries and even death to children, smaller adults, and unbelted passengers.
The dealers will inspect this sensor and take action accordingly. Owners of the affected vehicle will be notified from February 2024 onwards. Indian customers need not worry by large. Only the 2022 Camry and Lexus RX350 are available in our market.
