River has been steadily growing sales, now reaching almost 1000 units per month.
Almost 22 months after the first e-scooter was born out of the Hoskote plant in Karnataka, River has rolled out its 10,000th unit of the Indie. Providing a rugged and large e-scooter to the masses, the sales of the River Indie have been growing steadily, especially in South India.
The Yamaha-backed company has been steadily enhancing its footprint across India, with plans to have at least 100 stores and a new factory up and running by the end of the current fiscal year. Pune, Vijayawada, and Trivandrum are likely to see new River stores pop up, with a more rapid expansion likely to take place from September onwards.
The Indie is River’s first electric scooter, which has already seen an updated iteration that arrived in November 2024. The company claims it to be the SUV of scooters as it has a very brutish and flared look, quite unlike the conservative family options or the flashy sporty scooters we have in the Indian market. The healthy 161 km IDC range makes it a good option for those with long commutes, while a top speed of 90 kmph makes it pretty spirited too.
River is also going to be producing an electric scooter for Yamaha based on the Indie platform. The new factory could very well be put to use for the new products that will come soon. The upcoming Yamaha e-scooter was seen on test quite recently, as it looked radically different from the Indie. More details in this story.
