Tata Motors is all set to launch the new Harrier and Safari in the country on October 17, 2023. The bookings for both the 2023 Harrier and the 2023 Safari are open at an initial token amount of Rs. 25,000. With the 2023 update, Tata has refreshed the exterior of both SUVs, along with a refreshed list of features and tech on the inside. Mechanically, though, both SUVs remain unchanged despite introducing a new e-shifter with shift-by-wire technology added to the automatic units.
Visually, the front section receives a massive overhaul with a new grille, repositioned LED headlamp housing in a vertical setup, revised front and rear bumpers, a wide connecting light bar and exclusive paint schemes. On the side, both the SUVs remain unchanged although both get a new design for the alloys the Harrier also gets 19-inch wheels as an optional fitment with the Dark Editions, while customers can choose between either 17 or 18-inch alloys. Both the SUVs get ‘Harrier’ and ‘Safari’ respectively on the front doors. At the rear, the changes mostly include the new tail lamp setup with an LED bar light that connects end to end.
Several elements are carried over from the Red Dark Edition of the Harrier and Safari, introduced earlier this year. A larger 12.3-inch touchscreen for the higher specs and a smaller 10.2-inch screen for the lower trims is common on both SUVs. A 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, TPMS, a new fully digital driver’s display, a new rotary knob for drive modes, wireless charging, and wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also carried on both the SUVs.
In terms of safety, the company has made 6 airbags as standard while the top-spec Harrier and Safari get 7 airbags. Additionally, the company has also introduced 11+ ADAS functions on both SUVs. iRA 2.0 is also updated along with remote control locking. Both the SUVs continue to be underpinned by the same OMEGARC platform. There is no latest Global NCAP or even a Bharat NCAP crash test rating for the SUVs.
Mechanically, both the SUVs retain the 2.0-litre diesel engine, coupled to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Both the SUVs develop 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. Interestingly, Tata has employed shift-by-wire tech in its automatic gearbox, to improve the gear shifts and make the transitions smoother than before.
