One of the prominent exterior updates to the 2023 Safari is a comprehensive redesign of the front fascia. The bumper now exhibits a clear distinction between its upper and lower sections, separated by a contrasting black strip. The upper section features a wider and more pronounced grille with a full-width LED light bar. The lower section incorporates a central air intake with robust plastic cladding and contrasting inserts. The main headlamp clusters are positioned at the edges within a C-shaped housing, which lends the SUV a more substantial presence.
While the profile of the 2023 Safari remains largely unchanged, it boasts redesigned five-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear, the tail-lamp assembly now incorporates sleeker new LED elements, and the rear bumper showcases updated reflector protrusions and a glossy black finish on the rear skid plate. It's important to note that these updates primarily target soft plastic components rather than substantial sheet metal modifications.
The interior of the 2023 Tata Safari has received a comprehensive overhaul. It now features a new free-standing central touchscreen available in two sizes: 10.25-inch or 12.3-inch, depending on the trim level. The faux wood trim on the dashboard has been replaced with a combination of materials, including a textured top panel, gloss black surfaces, and leatherette padding with contrast stitching. Adding to the aesthetic appeal, there's a slim LED ambient light strip.
Notable interior upgrades include a touch-based HVAC control panel borrowed from the Nexon, a four-spoke steering wheel with a backlit Tata logo, and a 10.25-inch customisable digital instrument cluster equipped with navigation. The centre console area has been revamped to include a shorter gear lever for automatic variants and a new rotary dial for the drive mode selector, which features a digital display. In the higher-spec models, an electronic parking brake is now included, while lower variants retain the aircraft-style handbrake lever.
In terms of equipment, the 2023 Tata Safari offers a range of upgrades such as LED DRLs with welcome and goodbye animations, up to 19-inch alloy wheels with aero inserts, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, a 10-speaker JBL sound system, paddle shifters for automatic variants, rear window sunshades, ventilated and power-adjustable front seats with a memory function, gesture-controlled powered tailgate, and Bi-LED projector headlamps. Key features like the 360-degree camera, wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) suite have been retained. Notably, there are now up to 7 airbags, with 6 being standard across the range.
From a mechanical standpoint, the 2023 Tata Safari retains its previous engine, a 2.0-litre diesel engine generating 168 bhp and 350 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox, powering the front wheels. Additionally, it offers terrain response modes (Normal, Rough & Wet) and multiple drive modes (Eco, City & Sports).
