Improved engine results in increased power, complemented by updated design and technology enhancements.
BMW has launched the 2024 S 1000 XR and the 2024 M 1000 XR. The S 1000 XR now offers enhanced engine power, delivering 168 bhp, improved ergonomics, and a more aggressive design. On the other hand, the M 1000 XR, designed for performance-focused touring, features a more potent engine churning out 198 bhp, advanced riding modes, and cutting-edge electronics.
BMW's S 1000 XR has been updated for more power, comfort, and style. The improved 4-cylinder engine now produces 168 bhp, thanks to optimized intake and mapping. The hardware of the motorcycle remains unchanged.
Ergonomically, the seat is redesigned with a 10mm height increase and greater rider space. Aesthetic changes include sporty side panels and air intakes, a textured radiator trim, and a body-colored 'beak' fender.
Standard features encompass Headlight Pro, daytime running lights, keyless riding, and a USB charging option. Optional extras like the M GPS Laptrigger and M Carbon wheels are available.
The S 1000 XR comes in three color options: Blackstorm metallic, Gravity blue metallic, and Light White solid paint/Motorsport (with the M package and M seat).
The BMW M 1000 XR as a sports tourer, targeting riders seeking high-performance touring. It packs a engine derived from the S 1000 RR, producing 198 bhp, a significant 30bhp more than the S 1000 XR. Achieving a maximum torque of 113Nm at 11,000rpm, it can rev up to 14,600rpm and sprints from 0 to 200km/h in just 7.4 seconds, 1.3 seconds faster than the S 1000 XR.
Riding modes include 'Rain,' 'Road,' 'Dynamic,' and 'Race,' with 'Race Pro' modes offering fine-tuning for Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and the wheelie function. Features like a quickshifter, launch control, and a pit lane speed limiter are included.
M brakes and lightweight forged aluminum wheels enhance braking performance and handling, drawing from experience in Superbike World Championship racing.
The M 1000 XR is different from the S with its aerodynamics and suspension technology. It has winglets for increased downforce and superior stability. The chassis is tuned for performance, featuring Dynamic Damping Control (DDC), an adjustable spring base, and a steering damper.
For the ultimate experience, the M Competition Package offers M Carbon wheels, M Carbon parts, and a fully adjustable M rider footrest system. It does look aggressive with the quad winglets and forward leaning handlebar.
The updated S 1000 XR and the M 1000 XR are expected to make their India debut in 2024, completing BMW's M-spec range. Rivals in the Indian market include the Kawasaki Versys 1000, Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250, and Ducati Multistrada V4 all priced under ₹ 25 lakh.
