Prices have gone up by a mere ₹ 7,000
Kawasaki has launched the 2024 MY24 Kawasaki Z650RS in India. This is a dose of vintage flair into the growing middleweight segment. Priced at ₹6.99 lakh (ex-showroom), it slots above the standard Kawasaki Z650, offering a distinct identity for riders who crave a blend of classic aesthetics and contemporary performance. The price represents a modest increase of ₹7,000 over the 2023 model.
The Z650RS draws inspiration from Kawasaki's iconic Z650-B1 of the 1970s, instantly captivating with its neo-retro charm. The motorcycle is now available in a new Ebony/Metallic Matte Carbon Gray for 2024. The round headlight adorned with a thick chrome surround, twin-pod analogue instrument console, and an elongated tail section evoke a timeless elegance. Yet, modern touches like sleek LED indicators and a digital display ensure the bike stays relevant in the present day.
While the Kawasaki Z650RS embraces a retro theme, it doesn't compromise on modern features. The instrument cluster combines the classic twin-pod layout with a small LCD screen for essential information like fuel level and gear indicator. It also gets Kawasaki's smartphone connectivity for calls and navigation.
Another new addition for 2024 is the Kawasaki has introduced two lean sensitive, traction control modes as an added safety net. Mode 1, designed with sport riding in mind, is the least intrusive, aiding in managing traction during cornering for accelerated corner exits. On the other hand, Mode 2 intervenes rather more aggressively, reducing engine output when excessive wheel spin is detected, thereby helping riders navigate challenging conditions such as wet pavement or poor road surfaces.
Underneath the vintage skin lies the familiar 649cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine borrowed from the Z650. This tried-and-tested power plant delivers a healthy 67 bhp and 64 Nm. The engine remains unchanged, ensuring reliable performance and a familiar character for enthusiasts.
The Kawasaki Z650RS utilises the same trellis frame chassis as the Z650, renowned for its rigidity and balanced handling. This platform provides a solid foundation for confident riding, whether cruising through city streets or carving corners on winding roads. The suspension setup remains identical with a 41mm telescopic fork upfront and a preload-adjustable horizontal link system at the rear. Standard rotors replace the dual-petal discs of the Z650 for a more traditional look.
Priced at ₹6.99 lakh, the Kawasaki Z650RS occupies a strategic position in the Indian motorcycle market. It offers an alluring alternative to the standard Z650 (₹6.65 lakh) for those seeking a retro touch without breaking the bank. Its closest competitor is the Triumph Trident 660 (₹8.24 lakh), but the Z650RS undercuts it significantly, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious riders drawn to its classic charm.
