Kawasaki had already unveiled the upcoming ZX-6R at the 2023 India Bike Week festival
After showcasing the new ZX-6R in India at the 2023 India Bike Week, Kawasaki India is now all set to launch the middle-weight superbike on January 1. The bike was discontinued earlier due to BS6 fuel emission norms, However, the latest updates not only address that, Kawasaki has also made visual and technological changes that make the ZX-6R modern and contemporary.
Starting with the most visible change is the new fascia design. The slightly tweaked front beak now features curved LED headlights, which makes the ZX-6R look even more aggressive than before. This is thoroughly complemented by a new fairing design with integrated winglets. Kawasaki has also done away with petalled disc units from before and has now gone for round units instead.
Feature-wise, the Kawasaki now gains three levels of traction control, three power modes and three ride modes - Rain, Sport, Road, and a new Custom mode. The controls to all these modes can now be controlled on the new 4.3-inch TFT color display that also supports Bluetooth connectivity. These added features are expected to make living with the middleweight superbike daily an easy affair.
Kawasaki has retained the 636cc, liquid-cooled, four-cylinder engine motor with its sky high 16,000 rpm redline from before. But since it is now BS6compliant, the power and torque figures have taken a slight hit. This mill now produces 122bhp (127bhp peak with a RAM air intake), which is almost 5bhp less than before, and 69.14Nm of torque, down from 70.8 Nm from before. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a quickshifter as standard.
The Kawasaki ZX-6R will continue with Showa’s SFF-BP upside-down fork with rebound and compression adjustability, and Bottom-link Uni-Trak rear monoshock with spring preload adjustability. The braking set-up also continues as it is with a dual-310mm semi-floating disc at the front and a 220mm, single rear disc unit for the rear. Also, the tail light from the previous generation motorcycle has continued as it is.
The Kawasaki ZX-6R is expected to be priced between ₹12-13 lakh (ex-showroom). As for its competition, the ZX-6R does not have any competitor as such, but from a performance point of view, the naked Triumph Street Triple RS comes the closest.
