This marks the most extensive facelift for the ZS since its global debut in 2018.
MG Motor Europe is set to unveil a significant update for its Astor/ZS crossover SUV, with the official reveal scheduled for August 28. This marks the most extensive facelift for the vehicle since its global debut in 2018. While details remain limited, a teaser released by MG Motor Spain highlights key exterior changes, including a refreshed front fascia, redesigned wheels, and updated tail lamps. Additionally, subtle modifications to the car’s overall silhouette have been introduced, offering a slightly altered profile compared to the current model.

The teaser hints at noticeable design updates that modernise the Astor/ZS’s appearance. The front end appears more refined with potential changes to the grille and headlight design, while the new tail lamps and wheels add a contemporary touch. These changes align the crossover with MG’s current design language, which is also reflected in its larger sibling, the HS SUV.
While the interior details have not been officially revealed, it is expected that the updated Astor/ZS will adopt several elements from the MG HS. The current top-spec model already offers an impressive array of features, including dual digital screens, level-2 ADAS, connected car technology, climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat, and an LED lighting package. The upcoming model is likely to maintain or even enhance this feature set, continuing its appeal in the competitive compact SUV segment.

One of the most anticipated aspects of this update is the introduction of a hybrid powertrain. However, details surrounding this new engine option are still under wraps. For the Indian market, it is expected that the crossover will continue with the existing engine lineup, which includes a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Both engine options are available with either manual or automatic transmissions.
In India, the MG Astor competes in a crowded compact SUV segment that includes popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota HyRyder, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq as well as the newest entrant Citroën Basalt. Additionally, with the upcoming Tata Curvv entering the market, competition is set to intensify further.
