In a strategic move, Tata Motors will be streamlining the Punch's variant lineup with the facelift.
The Tata Punch, which recently became India’s best-selling car, is set to receive a facelift sooner than expected. Tata Motors has advanced the launch of the updated model, which was initially scheduled for mid-2025, to maintain the Punch's sales momentum and its competitive edge in the market.
One of the most significant changes in the Punch facelift is the introduction of a larger 10.25-inch infotainment system, which will support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This will be a major upgrade over the current setup, bringing the Punch in line with modern customer expectations for connectivity. The inclusion of wireless charging and C-type fast-charging ports in the higher Accomplished and Creative variants indicates Tata’s commitment to enhancing convenience, especially for tech-savvy buyers.
Additionally, the facelift will introduce rear AC vents and a redesigned centre console to improve interior ergonomics and passenger comfort. Another notable update is the wider availability of the sunroof, which will now be offered across more variants.
In a strategic move, Tata Motors will be streamlining the Punch's variant lineup. The current trims, including Pure Rhythm, Accomplished, Accomplished (Sunroof), and Creative flagship, are set to be discontinued. They will be replaced with three new variants: Pure (O), Adventure S, and Adventure+ S. This reorganization aims to simplify the selection process for buyers and provide a more focused range of options, potentially avoiding overlap in pricing and features.
Along with the introduction of new trims, there will be a reshuffle of features across the existing lineup. While the specific details of this redistribution have not been disclosed, this suggests that Tata Motors is focusing on offering a balanced feature set across the different variants to better cater to diverse customer preferences.
The facelifted Punch is expected to borrow design cues from its electric sibling, the Punch.ev, while retaining distinct elements to differentiate the petrol model. The front fascia is likely to undergo significant revisions, including new LED DRL signatures, redesigned headlamps, and revamped bumpers. These changes are expected to give the Punch a refreshed and more modern aesthetic, appealing to buyers looking for a stylish compact SUV.
Inside the cabin, in addition to the new equipment, there could be updated upholstery and a revised colour scheme for the dashboard, further enhancing the interior's visual appeal and perceived quality. These cosmetic updates aim to keep the Punch competitive in a segment that places a high value on design and features.
Mechanically, the Punch facelift will continue to use the 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, producing 85 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. Buyers will have the option of a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. Despite the lack of mechanical changes, the engine has proven reliable and well-suited to the compact SUV, balancing performance and fuel efficiency for daily driving. In addition to the petrol variant, Tata will also offer a CNG-powered version of the Punch, much like the current model.
Upon its launch, the Punch facelift will continue to compete with popular models like the Hyundai Exter and Citroën C3, along with the lower variants of the Nissan Magnite (which itself is due for a facelift soon) and the Renault Kiger.
