Gets new styling, updated electronics and revised riding posture
For 2024, Yamaha unveiled an upgraded MT-09 featuring a new tank, sportier ergonomics, and revised electronics. With new styling, updated ergonomics, a fresh five-inch TFT display, new switchgear, a Brembo radial master cylinder, and new tyres, there are numerous noteworthy changes to discuss. Take a look at the spec sheet first and then we shall get into the nitty gritties.
The 2024 Yamaha MT-09 boasts a redesigned headlight, with the two vertical LED position lights now positioned horizontally, and the central LED projector headlight raised, resulting in a unique aesthetic reminiscent of a prominent third eye.
New headlight and its lower placement in front of the fork tubes, aligns with the redesigned intakes on the side of the fuel tank. The reshaped tank is manufactured using a new press moulding process and has a modified shape aimed at enhancing rider mobility. The tank's position is slightly lower than the previous one, resulting in a more forward-leaning stance and increasing the handlebar rotation range by 4 degrees in both directions. It comes in three colours: Midnight Cyan, Matte Raven Black, and Team Yamaha Blue.
Yamaha MT-09 features separate rider and passenger seats, departing from the previous single-piece design. The new rider seat is narrower, but the seat height remains the same at 820 mm. They have lowered the handlebars, offering two adjustable positions for rider preference. The footrests were repositioned 30 mm back and 10 mm higher to create a sportier riding posture but also offering two adjustable settings. Additionally, the passenger's foot pegs were relocated to a lower and further back position on the redesigned subframe.
The 2024 Yamaha MT-09 features a liquid-cooled, DOHC 890cc inline three-cylinder CP3 engine. This makes 119 bhp of power and 93 Nm of torque. It also gets electronic controlled engine compression braking. It will step in to help prevent the rear tire from skidding when the slipper clutch can not handle. This feature is switchable and can be turned off if its not up to your liking. It's equipped with a six-speed gearbox, and comes standard with a slipper clutch. Yamaha's third generation up and down quickshifter is also part of the standard package. The bike features a new fresh two-duct intake design with acoustic amplifier grilles atop the fuel tank to enhance high-frequency induction sounds. The fuel tank holds 14 litres, with a claimed fuel economy of 20 kmpl.
2024 Yamaha MT-09 features a larger five-inch full-colour TFT display with smartphone connectivity and navigation capabilities through the Garmin StreetCross app. The 2024 Yamaha MT-09 features a six-axis IMU derived from the R1, providing functions such as lean-sensitive traction control, slide control, front wheel lift control, and brake control. Additionally, it introduces a back slip regulator (BSR) for rear wheel stabilisation during engine braking in low-grip conditions. The MT-09 offers three preset ride modes: Sport, Street, and Rain, with unique settings for power delivery, traction control, and lift control. Two custom modes can also be programmed using Yamaha's MyRide smartphone app or the redesigned switchgear.
The New MT-09 features suspension with a 41mm upside-down KYB front fork that's fully adjustable. The rear suspension includes an adjustable KYB shock with revised linkage settings. Spring rates and damping characteristics have been optimised to match the new tyres on the 2024 MT-09. It also comes with a new Brembo radial master cylinder and a dual 298mm front brake disc setup for. In the rear, there's a single 245mm brake disc. ABS is included as a standard feature on the MT-09, and the brake and clutch levers are adjustable. The 2024 Yamaha MT-09 rides on a set of 17-inch Yamaha spin forged aluminium wheels with Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S23 tyres as standard.
In addition, the 2024 MT-09 comes with standard cruise control and new turn signal functionality. A soft click on the turn signal switch activates a three-time flash of the desired turn signal, while a normal click initiates regular turn signal operation. Along with this it also gets self-cancelling turn signals, automatically turning off after 15 seconds or 500 feet of use. A USB-C socket is included under the seat for charging.
The launch of this bike in India is expected to take place in mid 2024. We are excited to take a look at this bike in person at EICMA 2023. As of now we expect this bike to hit the international markets by March 2024.
