The Citroen C3/e-C3, BMW 5 Series, Cadillac Lyric, Audi Q6 e-tron and the Porsche 911 GTS T-Hybrid were announced as class winners.
The German Car Of The Year 2025, today announced the class winners. 5 cars were adjudged victorious in their respective categories. These cars were selected from all the new cars that were launched within the past 12 months and there was a jury of 40 national and international jury members, who participated in voting for these cars. The jury member to represent India on this grand stage was none other than Acko Drive’s Editor-In-Chief, Siddharth Vinayak Patankar.
There are a total of 5 segments whose winners were announced and they are categorised as per the price of vehicles.
1) Compact: Cars priced up to 35,000 euros (approximately Rs. 31 lakh)
2) Premium: Cars priced up to 70,000 euros (approximately Rs. 63.9 lakh)
3) Luxury: Cars priced over 70,000 euros (approximately Rs. 63.9 lakh and above)
4) New Energy: Focus On alternative powertrain
5) Performance: This one is self explainatory
Compact: The Citroen C3/e-C3 was deemed the winner for this category. Don’t mistake this one for the one made in India. This C3/e-C3 is manufactured at the company’s Slovakia plant.
Premium: The BMW 5 Series/i5 won in the premium category. Now India too gets both the 5 Series and the i5 and through our review we’ve told you all about the car. So if you want to know all about the car, do read it here.
Luxury: The Cadillac Lyriq swayed the votes of many jury members in its direction. It’s a big 2 row EV and the SUV bodystyle also makes a style statement. Powered by the Ultium EV Battery Platform, the Lyriq’s sales have gone up significantly in Q3 2024, with the company selling 7,224 units, compared to 3018 units in the same period last year.
New Energy: The Audi Q6/S6 e-tron was the winner in the New Energy category. It has the longest range in the model family of up to 656 kms. It looks sexy and has a big battery too of upto 100 kWh. Audi clearly, is making strides in the right direction when it comes to the Q6 e-tron.
Performance: The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid, was the winner in this category. Now this one has a very small battery, only 1.9 kWh, and can’t be driven on electricity alone, but that does not mean Porsche has held back on performance. It gets a 3.6-litre engine which combines with this small battery to make 534 bhp. No wonder then, the jurors were impressed.
From these five class leaders, jurors will select the overall winner of the German Car Of The Year 2025 award during extensive testing over a two-day period. The winner will be announced on November 13, 2024.
