Honda has also launched its more potent variant, the CB1000 Hornet SP.
Further expanding its Hornet portfolio, Honda has introduced the brand new CB1000 Hornet and its subsequent more potent version, the CB1000 Hornet SP. Both bikes build on the success of the Honda CB750 Hornet. Coupled with the 1,000 cc, four-pot engine sourced from the CBR1000RR Fireblade, the new Hornets are here to snatch the competition from the Suzuki Katana, Yamaha MT-09, and Kawasaki Z900.
So starting with the heart, the Fireblade-sourced engine in the base Honda CB1000 Hornet churns out 150 bhp at a sky-high 11,000 rpm and 104 Nm at 9,000 rpm. In the SP variant, the same mill produces 155 bhp. Either way, both are available with a six-speed gearbox, and Honda claims that it has kept the gear ratios shorter for quick acceleration.
Both bikes are built around a completely redesigned frame and the marque has gone for a more torsionally rigid structure. The frame is sprung by 41-mm Showa SFF-BP USD Fork in the base Honda CB1000 Hornet. While the Honda CB1000 Hornet SP gets a premium fully adjustable, 41 mm SFF-BP USD fork and Öhlins TTX36 rear shock absorber.
Wrapping up this sophisticated architecture is an aggressive body design with sharp lines and a muscular stance. The bike exudes compact dimensions which, coupled with its signature Hornet fuel tank and dual LED projector headlight design – the Honda Hornets give off a nice premium feel. However the styling is reminiscent of the Kawasaki Z1000 and the Ducati Streetfighter. Lastly, complimenting this entire package are three colour options – Grand Prix Red, Mat Iridium Gray Metallic, Pearl Glare White.
Packed with modern technology, both the Honda CB1000 Hornet and CB1000 Hornet SP feature ride-by-wire throttle control, traction control, and wheelie control. Multiple riding modes are also available, in this case, three ride models and two additional custom ride modes as well.
While Honda has launched the CB1000 Hornet and CB1000 Hornet SP in global markets, at a very reasonable price point that is below £8,999 (which is equivalent to ₹9.90 lakh). Its launch in India is still under debate. Both models represent a significant leap forward for Honda’s naked bike line-up, so if this duo had to launch in India, it would be priced close to ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom).
