Porsche has revealed the all-wheel-drive (AWD) variants of the facelifted eighth-generation 911, internally known as the type 992.2. The new variants are the Carrera 4S coupe, Carrera 4S cabriolet and the Targa 4S. All of these variants sit below the 911 GTS variant.

The brand says half of the customers who choose the S variants of a 911 opt for an AWD system as it helps provide maximum traction in poor weather conditions. Like all AWD models of the 911, the new variants also get a rear-biased system.

The new AWD variants of the 911 get a 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine with 473 bhp and 529 Nm on tap. Porsche claims that the new variants make 29 bhp more than their predecessors and that this has been achieved due to a new intercooler system derived from the 911 Turbo. Sending power to the wheels is an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and there’s no manual gearbox on offer.

Porsche claims the Carrera 4S Coupe can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of 308 kmph. The Carrera 4S Cabriolet and Targa 4S models can do it in 3.5 seconds (claimed).

The braking system on the new AWD models has been derived from the GTS models with 408 mm discs in the front and 380 mm discs in the rear. Of the three, the Targa 4S is the only one to get rear-wheel steering, and the Carrera 4S coupe is only available as a two-seater as standard, but the rear seats can be added as an optional extra. All three also get matrix LED headlights and a wireless charger as standard.

Furthermore, the Targa nameplate in the 911 has completed 60 years since the first model was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1965. The Targa is a unique form of a convertible body style where it is a hard-top convertible, but the entire roof doesn’t open.
