Unlike last time, only one Armado was part of the procession.
The Mahindra Armado was part of the Republic Day Parade on January 26 in the national capital for the second time in a row. However, unlike last year, where two Armados took part, this year only one was seen in the parade.
The Armado was born from the contract Mahindra Defence Systems earned in 2021, to manufacture Armoured Light Specialist Vehicles (ALSV). The Armado is built on the same chassis as the Thar but has been heavily modified to be suitable for combat. It gets STANAG Level 2 and B7 level protection. It also gets 3.2-litre diesel engine with 215 bhp and a top speed of 120 kmph.
Mahindra’s ALSV has a payload capacity of 1,000 kg and it can be customised to be a weapons carrier, a reconnaissance vehicle, a border security vehicle and can also be used on counter-terrorist operations like patrolling in high-intensity areas.
