This will mark Alcatel's first activity in the Indian smartphone market since 2018.
Alcatel on Tuesday announced its return to the Indian smartphone market after a notable absence of several years. The French brand, which operates independently under TCL Communication through a trademark licensing agreement with Finnish tech major Nokia, plans to introduce a new range of premium smartphones manufactured locally in India.
This will mark Alcatel's first activity in the Indian smartphone market since 2018. Even though the brand has maintained an international presence with various models including the Alcatel 1, Alcatel TKEE Mini, and Alcatel 3L across more than 160 global markets, it did not launch any product in India in all these years.
The brand's re-entry strategy focuses on combining technological innovation with local manufacturing capabilities.
"Our devices seamlessly merge with style and performance, catering to tech enthusiasts, urban aspirants, fashion-conscious consumers, and digital nomads alike. We believe that technology should not only be powerful but also reflect the latest trends, and we are excited to introduce products that embody this philosophy in the Indian market," Atul Vivek, Chief Business Officer, Alcatel, told Acko Byte in a statement.
Alcatel's new smartphones will be manufactured locally, aligning with the government's Make in India initiative. The brand is also confirmed to establish a pan-India service network to ensure customer support.
Alcatel's upcoming smartphone lineup is said to feature cutting-edge technology, India's first patented innovations, and designs inspired by the brand's French heritage. The company has confirmed that at least one model will include a built-in stylus. This could mean the Samsung Galaxy Ultra model is getting a rival.
"By producing our devices within the country, we aim to enhance supply chain efficiency, ensure superior quality, and contribute to India's growing technology ecosystem. This strategic move not only strengthens our commitment to the Indian market but also reinforces our mission to make cutting-edge technology more accessible and affordable for consumers," said Ansh Rathi, Chief Operating Officer, Alcatel.
