The Milano Elettrica Is Alfa Romeo’s first-ever all-electric model.
Alfa Romeo has unveiled its first-ever all-electric model, the Milano SUV. It is a compact SUV that is also available as a hybrid. Alfa Romeo also states that the Milano marks the start of a new design language for the firm.
The Milano Elettrica, unlike all other EVs in the world, actually gets an open grille, with it getting the iconic cross and snake motif in the grille. The Milano hybrid variant has a mesh grille with big Alfa Romeo lettering, similar to the brand’s vintage models. However, the grille still retains the brand’s signature triangular frame.
Furthermore, the Milano gets a C-shaped headlamp housing with the LED DRLs split into three dashes. In profile, the Milano gets two different designs for the alloy wheels which look like a modern take on Alfa Romeo’s classic alloy wheel design. The rear door handles are mounted on the C-Pillar and the charging port is placed on the left rear fender.
The Milano looks like it has a coupe-like roofline but that’s just clever design. At the back, Alfa’s first EV has an inverted U-shaped housing that has three L-shaped LED lighting elements on each side. The only difference between the hybrid and electric Milano is the inclusion of the exhaust pipes on the former.
Inside, the Milano has a very complex-looking dashboard design. It gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s been angled towards the driver. The Milano also gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, physical controls for the HVAC as well as the volume knob, the start-stop button mounted in the centre console and an electronic parking brake. The Milano also gets level 2 ADAS with features like adaptive cruise control, lane centring, parking assistance, autonomous emergency braking and more.
The Milano electric gets a 54-kWh battery pack that has a claimed range of up to 420 km, depending on the variant. The Milano Elettrica gets two power options, 156 bhp with 260 Nm and 240 bhp with 345 Nm, depending on the variant. Alfa Romeo says the battery can be fully charged in 5 hours and 45 minutes with AC charging. On the other hand, it can charge from 20 - 80 per cent in 27 minutes using a 100 kW DC fast charger.
The hybrid, called Milano Ibrida, gets a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine developing 136 bhp and 230 Nm paired to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The engine is assisted by an electric motor producing 28 bhp. The Ibrida is available with either a front-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive drivetrain. The hybrid can do the 0-100 kmph run in 8.9 seconds and has a top speed of 206 kmph.
