The highly anticipated new-generation Mini Countryman SE is set to make its debut in India tomorrow, marking another significant entry in the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) market. With bookings already underway, the electric SUV will arrive alongside the new MINI Cooper and BMW 5 Series, signalling a strong push from the BMW Group in the luxury segment. Here’s a look at what the Mini Countryman SE brings to the table.
Despite sharing its platform with the BMW iX1, the all-electric Mini Countryman SE retains a distinctive design language that sets it apart. Up front, the SUV features Mini's signature octagonal grille and revised headlights equipped with new daytime running lights (DRLs). The rear end sports a redesigned tailgate and taillights with new LED elements, providing a fresh, modern look.
The interior of the Mini Countryman SE is a testament to Mini's commitment to minimalistic yet functional design. The cabin is dominated by a 9.5-inch round OLED infotainment display, positioned centrally for easy access. Additionally, a futuristic heads-up display replaces the traditional instrument cluster, ensuring a driver-focused experience that enhances both convenience and safety.
While specific powertrain options for the Indian market have yet to be confirmed, MINI offers two electric powertrains for the Countryman SE overseas. The first is a single-motor front-wheel-drive variant producing 201 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. The second option is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant, delivering a robust 309 bhp and 494 Nm of torque. Both models are equipped with a 66.45 kWh battery, offering an estimated range of 462 km for the single motor and 433 km for the dual motor. The final specifications for India might differ, but these figures provide a strong indication of the SUV's potential performance.
The Mini Countryman SE will be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), which contributes to its premium pricing. While the petrol-powered Mini Countryman starts at ₹48.10 lakh (ex-showroom), the electric version is expected to be priced around ₹70 lakh (ex-showroom). This positions the Countryman SE in a competitive segment, pitting it against other premium EVs such as the Kia EV6, BMW iX1, Volvo XC40 Recharge, and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
