Touted to be the Exter EV in India, the new Inster is Hyundai’s most affordable EV.
Hyundai Motor Company has revealed its youngest EV, the all-electric Inster, at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show. With the Inster, Hyundai brings a blend of unique design, superior driving range, advanced technology, and versatile functionality, setting a new benchmark in the urban EV market. Touted to be the Exter EV in India, the new Inster is Hyundai’s most affordable EV.

The Inster’s bold design merges a futuristic aesthetic with practicality, boasting a spacious interior within a micro-SUV body. Inspired by Hyundai’s Korea-exclusive petrol-powered Casper, the Inster’s design features an extended body and wheelbase, providing more interior space and a robust road presence. Positioned between traditional A-segment city cars and larger B-segment models, the Inster offers enhanced manoeuvrability and practicality, making it ideal for urban environments.
Equipped with a standard 42 kWh battery, and an optional Long-Range 49 kWh battery, the Inster claims to deliver a range of up to 355 km (WLTP) on a single charge. Both battery options power a single motor, offering 96 bhp in the base model and 113 bhp in the Long-Range version, with a torque of 147 Nm. The vehicle's efficiency is highlighted by an estimated energy consumption of 15.3 kWh/100 km (WLTP).

Fast charging capabilities allow the Inster to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes using a 120 kW DC high-power charging station. The vehicle also features an 11 kW on-board charger, a battery heating system, and a high-efficiency heat pump.
The Inster features a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a matching infotainment touchscreen with navigation, and a wireless charging dock. The vehicle supports Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch (NFC) for seamless access. Safety and driver assistance are prioritised with comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Smart Cruise Control. Additional features such as a Surround View Monitor and Parking avoidance assist enhance overall driving safety.

The Inster’s interior consists of sustainable materials throughout, with recycled PET and bio-polypropylene derived from sugarcane used in the interior, and recycled waste tire pigments in the exterior paint.
The Inster will debut in Korea this summer, followed by launches in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific regions. An additional variant, the Inster Cross, is slated for future release, featuring a rugged design tailored for outdoor enthusiasts.
