The Nexus is the brand’s first premium electric scooter.
Ampere has taken the wraps off its most premium electric scooter offering yet called the Nexus. The brand-new scooter has been launched in India at an introductory price of ₹ 1.10 lakh with the base EX variant while the top-spec Nexus ST variant will set you back by ₹ 1.20 lakh (introductory price). Bookings for the e-scooter have commenced at ₹ 10,000 and deliveries will commence by the end of May.
The design of the Ampere Nexus is inspired by the Arctic Tern, an annual migratory bird. Its new apron design gets a unique dual-tone colour option. This combo is also visible on the side modular body panels as well. Interestingly, there are no aggressive cuts and creases on the body, and the Ampere Nexus looks relatively simple. However, the headlight design and the new 10-spoke alloy wheels help the Nexus distinguish itself from the rest of the line-up.
As for its aesthetic appeal, Ampere Nexus will be available in 4 colour options, namely, – Zanskar Aqua, Lunar White, Steel Grey, and Indian Red.
Powering the Ampere NXG is a 3 kWh lithium phosphate battery which is paired with a 3.3 kW mid-mounted electric motor. The peak power produced is 4 kW and it helps the electric scooter sprint to a top speed of 93 kmph.
Ampere claims that the Nexus can do 136 km of range on a single charge. However, this is the IDC range, so in real-world scenarios expect this to be somewhere in the range of 110-115 km. Ampere states that it would take 3.3 hours to charge its batteries fully using a standard 15A charger. There is sadly no fast charging option for it.
Ampere claims that the exoskeleton of the Nexus is the strongest in the class. It is suspended by a telescopic fork, dual-shock absorber. Whereas, the new 10-spoke alloy wheels are available with a single disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear.
Feature-wise, the Ampere ushers in a brand new 7-inch fully digital TFT cluster unit. While this unit will be available with the top ST variant, the entry-level EX variant gets a 6-inch LCD unit. The former gets auto brightness adjustments with a specific night and day mode. Additionally, both the units also support smartphone connectivity via its dedicated app. Subsequently, the NXG is also available with turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts, etc.
The Ampere Nexus comes at a time when family-centric electric scooters are becoming quite a lot prominent and hence, it will go up against the Ather Rizta, TVS iQube S, and Ola S1 Pro.
