Ampere hopes to diversify into new segments
Ampere has applied for the trademark of two new names – Nexus and Aspirus – and these hint towards the future path that the company might take.
The Nexus, expected to be Ampere's flagship electric scooter, has been spotted undergoing testing. With its traditional and proportionate family scooter design, the Nexus appears to target the family scooter segment. The spacious seat and broad footboard suggest ample comfort for two riders. It is expected to fall in the wave of family e-scooters that we expect to see after the launch of Ather Rizta.
It will get an underbone frame with telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers. It is likely to roll on 12-inch alloy wheels with a high load bearing capacity. Additionally, spy shots reveal LED lighting, a large digital display and navigation.
Ampere is also developing another electric scooter codenamed NXU. This model, likely to be named Aspirus. It will be specifically designed for the B2B market. This offering might come with a swappable battery system for round the clock operation. Also a higher load bearing capacity while reducing on the creature comforts might be something that will be seen on this commercially focused scooter. The target here would be catering to last-mile delivery applications and also reducing downtime of charging a scooter.
Ampere is expected to launch both the Nexus and Aspirus scooters soon. The Nexus is anticipated to be priced above ₹ 1.46 lakh (ex-showroom). Both of these scooters are expected to be positioned as premium offerings in Ampere’s portfolio.
