Furman's scary experience highlights the life-saving potential of the Apple Watch.
A 40-year-old Las Vegas man has credited his Apple Watch with saving his life after suffering a dangerous fall due to low blood sugar, as per a report by KSNV. Josh Furman, who has type 1 diabetes, said he lost consciousness at home and hit his head after his blood sugar dropped severely.
Typically, when his blood sugar gets too low, Furman's insulin pump sounds an alarm. But this time, the fall was so severe that he passed out. That's when his Apple Watch sprang into action. Even though Furman could not communicate, the watch automatically called 911 using its fall detection feature.
The watch also gave emergency responders Furman's location thanks to its GPS. And because Furman had set up emergency contacts, his mother was notified of the situation and could provide critical medical details to the 911 operator.
"I don't know how long I was out for, but when I woke up, the Apple Watch had basically called 911," said Furman. "If it wasn't for the features that I use, the blood glucose sensor and all that stuff, I wouldn't have gotten the watch, and now with the fall detection that honestly saved my life."
Furman's scary experience highlights the life-saving potential of the Apple Watch, which can detect falls and medical emergencies and alert emergency services even when a user is incapacitated.
