Ashok Leyland inaugurates greenfield plant in Lucknow focused on electric vehicles, with capacity for 5,000 units annually.
Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of the Hinduja Group, has inaugurated a new integrated commercial vehicle facility in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, dedicated to clean mobility solutions.
The plant was officially opened by Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Rajnath Singh, Minister of Defence, and H.D. Kumaraswamy, Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India.
The event was also attended by senior state officials, diplomats, industry leaders, global dealers, suppliers, partners, and executives from the Hinduja Group and Ashok Leyland.
Located in Sarojini Nagar Industrial Area near Lucknow Airport and covering over 70 acres, the facility is described as Ashok Leyland's most advanced and sustainable plant worldwide. It primarily focuses on electric vehicle production, with an annual capacity of up to 5,000 vehicles. A majority of the workforce is sourced from Uttar Pradesh, including a notable proportion of women employees.
Dheeraj Hinduja, Chairman of Ashok Leyland, stated that the new plant represents a significant step for the company in Uttar Pradesh, supporting economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development. He emphasised its role in advancing India's commercial vehicle sector and contributing to the company's Net Zero emission objectives.
The facility is claimed to incorporate advanced technology and automation for superior quality and innovation, with a strong emphasis on electric buses to support a cleaner mobility ecosystem.
Designed as an environmentally responsible site, the plant features rooftop solar panels, energy-efficient LED lighting, battery-operated internal logistics, water conservation measures, and a zero-discharge system.
The new facility is expected to contribute to local skill development and employment while reinforcing Ashok Leyland's position in sustainable transportation.
