This order also marks a groundbreaking collaboration between Ashok Leyland and TNSTC.
The 4th largest manufacturer of buses in the world and India’s largest bus manufacturer, Ashok Leyland announced their latest landmark order from Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation for 552 Ultra-Low Entry (Diesel) Non-AC buses.
This “groundbreaking collaboration” between the marquee and TNSTC as part of their “Mobility for all” initiative is funded by the German Development Bank (KfW).
As for the buses, the new ULE buses get “state-of-the-art” features like the powerful H-series 6-cylinder 4-valve 246hp engine placed at the rear, paired with an automatic transmission. Other highlights include electronically controlled front and rear suspension, an intelligent transportation system with CCTV, destination boards that reflect the vehicle’s location, and tracking.

Ashok Leyland will be commencing the delivery of these buses from April 2024 onwards. These buses will be differently-abled passenger friendly and, per the marquee “will set new standards in the industry”. The design of these vehicles also focuses on a citizen-centric approach, with both comfort and safety in mind.
