.1R is virtually boltless
The J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R is set to make its public debut at Rouleur Live in London between November 2-4, showcasing the shared passion for cycling. The collaboration between Aston Martin and J.Laverack pays homage to the origins of Aston Martin's founders, who were brought together through cycling over a century ago. In a collaborative effort, Aston Martin and J.Laverack have introduced the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R, an advanced road cycle. This cycle focuses on a sleek and integrated design with 3D-printed titanium lugs and carbon-fibre tubes, combining comfort and responsiveness.
The .1R bike features a 'visually boltless' design, eliminating exposed cables, and borrowing design elements from high-performance automotive experts. The frame is crafted with titanium and carbon-fibre components, providing both a visually clean appearance and a comfortable ride.
The AERA Components Æ|55 wheels on the .1R are exclusive, featuring 55 mm deep carbon tubeless rims with a 22 mm internal width. They are laced with 28 Sapim CX-Ray spokes, maintaining a black colour scheme. The hubs, tailored for the .1R, are meticulously machined from high-strength aerospace aluminium and finished in a custom brevet black colour. Continental has introduced a 30 mm wide stealth black version of its GP5000S TR tires, ideal for specially crafted carbon rims, balancing speed and comfort.
The term 'badge engineering' often evokes thoughts of collaborative bicycle projects in the past, but the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R gives a completely new dimension to this concept. Hidden beneath the lacquer, the metal badges on this bicycle are a testament to remarkable engineering. Each badge is incredibly thin, measuring just 40 microns, and employs the same intricate process used on the Aston Martin Valkyrie's badge, known as the "lace wing."
The hypercar's wheel design is mirrored in miniature form in the titanium piston caps of the bike's brakes. Furthermore, if you closely examine the impeccably machined cups on the threaded bottom bracket of the .1R, you'll discover similarities with the central wheel nuts on an Aston Martin Valkyrie.
Aston provides owners with the opportunity to customise the .1R to their preferences, including colour schemes and materials, reflecting the approach used in Aston Martin's luxury cars. This cycle offers customisation not only in appearance but also in functionality.
Each bike is unique, marked with an individual number. Additionally, it comes with a travel case that doubles as a display stand, providing a practical and functional feature.
In a similar vein, unlike typical crank lengths available in 2.5mm increments, .1R owners can precisely specify their crank length down to fractions of a millimetre, thanks to custom 3D printed titanium tips on the carbon crank arms. Saddle height adjustments are made using exquisite bespoke titanium collars that are interchangeable. Each bicycle comes with a distinctive set of tools, neatly stored alongside the collars within a meticulously crafted wooden tool case.
Customers can select from three 12-speed groupsets favoured by UCI World Tour professionals: Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, Campagnolo Super Record Wireless, or SRAM RED eTap AXS for the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R. The .1R's custom chainrings are precision-machined from aluminium and can be tailored to each owner's preferred sizes.
Owners have the option to customize each saddle, which can be adorned with their preferred leather or Alcantara covering. These seats are then elegantly completed with a single titanium rivet. The same choice of materials extends to the handlebar grips, with the entire range of Aston Martin colours.
Each owner will receive an exclusive invitation to visit Aston Martin's Gaydon headquarters, where they will undergo a comprehensive fitting process with J.Laverack's founders, providing extensive opportunities for personalising their one-of-a-kind .1R. Customers have the option to choose from the same colour palettes and trim selections available on Aston Martin's automobiles, enabling the possibility of harmonising their car and bike if desired.
Additionally, digital integration of the road bicycle into Aston Martin's award-winning online configurator allows everyone to configure their ideal .1R. This digital tool provides customisation options for various components, including the saddle, handlebar tape, tube colours, lugs, forks, stem, seat post, and handlebar drops. For those who appreciate the beauty of carbon fibre, the option to leave it bare is available. Accent components like the bottom bracket cups, brake callipers, and brake disc centre's feature a special ceramic coating that can be highlighted in bronze or understated in black.
The .1R features a four-piston brake calliper. This does make it premium in terms of both form and function. The titanium and carbon fibre components make it a lightweight vehicle which according to the company, makes the riding experience quite remarkable.
