This collaboration will also aim to elevate electric vehicle safety and user experience.
Bengaluru-based Ather Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global semiconductor giant Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific to support India’s EV adoption goals. Both will work together to enhance its electric vehicle technology and charging infrastructure. Infineon will provide these technologies, including microcontrollers, automotive sensors, and advanced SiC and GaN technologies. These components are expected to enhance charging speeds, system reliability, and overall vehicle performance whilst reducing manufacturing costs, which will be the most critical aspect for Ather. The company is already working on developing a new low cost electric scooter platform and any form of cost reduction will be beneficial for the brand.
Additionally, the collaboration will also explore sensing and safety innovations that will elevate safety on electric vehicles and for better user experience as well. “Our approach has always been grounded in first-principles thinking and deep engineering, questioning how every system can be made better, faster, and more efficient. That’s where semiconductor innovation becomes critical. Infineon’s leadership in semiconductors and system solutions brings deep expertise that aligns with our engineering-first approach. Our partnership with Infineon gives us access to advanced technologies that can help us improve key systems, from charging to safety and explore ways to reduce system complexity and cost,” noted Swapnil Jain, Executive Director and CTO, Ather Energy.
This announcement comes fresh after Ather Energy went public a few weeks back. The brand has quite the expansive product onslaught in its pipeline and the next project will be to launch its debut electric motorcycle.
“Our advanced SiC and GaN technologies will help drive energy-efficient and high-performance electric vehicles. This partnership will foster innovation that contributes meaningfully to India’s ambitious objective to reach a 30 percent sales share for EVs by 2030,” concluded Peter Schaefer, Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer Automotive at Infineon.
