Ather Energy Limited, a key player in India's electric two-wheeler sector, has accomplished a feat by manufacturing its 500,000th electric scooters at its Hosur production unit in Tamil Nadu, the company announced on Monday. The landmark vehicle was the Ather Rizta, the brand's family-oriented scooter model that has become a key contributor to the company's expansion since its market introduction last year.
In merely twelve months following its debut, the Rizta has contributed over one-third of Ather's cumulative production output, highlighting its rising popularity among family-oriented scooter purchasers. The manufacturer has simultaneously pursued aggressive geographical expansion throughout India, reinforcing its footprint in Tier 2 and Tier 3 urban centers across North and Central India, complementing its established presence in major metropolitan areas.
"Crossing 5,00,000 scooters is a major milestone for Ather. From our first prototype to today, our journey has been about building not just vehicles, but a scalable and reliable manufacturing ecosystem. This reflects years of focused engineering, rigorous testing, and meticulous attention to quality and the trust of our owner community that has supported us throughout," Swapnil Jain, Co-founder and CTO of Ather Energy, said in a statement.
Ather presently manages dual production sites in Hosur -- one for vehicle assembly operations and another for battery production -- with a collective annual manufacturing capability of 4.2 lakh scooters.
To accommodate escalating market requirements, the company is establishing Factory 3.0, its third manufacturing facility, at Bidkin, Auric (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Maharashtra. Designed in two developmental stages and constructed following Industry 4.0 standards, the upcoming facility will elevate the organization's aggregate installed capacity to 1.42 million electric two-wheelers annually once operational.
Established in 2013 by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain, Ather Energy has maintained a leadership position in India's electric vehicle landscape through its commitment to innovation and manufacturing excellence.
The brand markets two separate product categories: the performance-focused Ather 450 series and the family-centric Ather Rizta, available across eight configurations. Additionally, Ather pioneered India's inaugural dedicated two-wheeler rapid-charging infrastructure, Ather Grid, which currently encompasses 4,032 charging stations globally, including 3,997 locations throughout India and 35 installations in Nepal and Sri Lanka.
