This battery type is expected to further boost the range of Ather scooters, and make them even more efficient than what the scooters currently are.
Bengaluru-based Ather Energy has joined hands with Chinese company CBAK Energy for its battery supply solutions. A leading supplier of lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries in China, CBAK will supply the Indian company its Model 32140 cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells via the subsidiary brand, Nanjing CBAK New Energy Technology Co. Ltd.
CBAK noted in its press release that the Model 32140 battery cell is highly suggested to be used in the two-wheeler, three-wheeler, and Light Electric Vehicle segment. Therefore, Ather’s decision to go for these batteries further reasserts the demand for such high-performance batteries in the country. Ather has been using NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) batteries in its scooters which it sources from Amara Raj Advanced Cell Technologies. The new LFP batteries should help improve its scooter’s range, and also be more fitting to the upcoming electric motorcycles that it has slated for launch.
Speaking on the occasion of this newly announced partnership, Zhiguang Hu, Chief Executive Officer of CBAK Energy, commented, “We are confident that our Model 32140 battery cells, perfectly suited for India’s electric two-wheeler market, will help drive future growth. As India’s LEV sector continues to expand, we expect to secure increasing orders and market share, positioning CBAK Energy as a key player in the region’s EV revolution.”
We have reached out to Ather and are awaiting confirmation for the same too. So stay tuned to this space as soon as Ather Energy gets back to us.
