Audi Italy’s head honcho, Fabrizio Longo, passed away in a tragic accident while mountain climbing in Italy. Longo, aged 62, was climbing the Cima Payer peak in the Adamello mountain range when he fell 10,000 ft near the summit, according to multiple reports.
The summit is located in northern Italy near the Italian-Swiss border. Rescue teams rushed to the scene of the accident but he was announced dead at the scene. According to reports, his body was transported to the nearby town of Carisolo.
Longo has been the Brand Director of Audi Italy since February 2013 and was reportedly an avid mountaineer. He started his career in the marketing department of Fiat in 1987 and 15 years later moved to Lancia. Longo was also an avid and well-known ski and mountaineering enthusiast. The International Ski and Snowboard Federation released a statement where Flavio Roda, the head of the federation, stated that Longo’s death was “a terrible loss for the federation that has collaborated fruitfully with Longo for years.”
An Audi spokesperson told the New York Post that, “Fabrizio Longo has been leading the Audi brand in Italy with enormous success since 2013, confirming the brand’s leadership in the premium segment for 11 consecutive years.” The spokesperson added that Longo was “a person of great integrity, culture, capability and sensitivity. He was a source of unwavering support. His strong values and genuine care for each one created a workplace filled with warmth and respect.”
