Lexus has unveiled a refreshed version of its ES luxury sedan at the Auto Guangzhou show, alongside the new LX700h SUV. Despite having been in production since 2018, the current-generation ES has received a series of updates bringing exterior refinements, interior upgrades, and market-specific adaptations.
The facelifted ES adopts a modernised design as the iconic spindle grille now features a new pattern inspired by the Lexus RX. Even the addition of matrix LED headlights enhances the sedan’s front fascia with a dual "L"-shaped motif. At the rear, Lexus has introduced a light bar—a design element increasingly popular in the luxury segment. This horizontal strip links the updated taillights, which also incorporate the distinctive "L" graphic seen in the headlights. These changes aim to keep the ES competitive with rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series by adhering to current design trends while retaining its unique brand identity.
Inside, the updated ES features a redesigned cabin centred around a 14-inch touchscreen display. This larger interface replaces physical climate control buttons, streamlining the centre console’s layout but potentially complicating usability for those accustomed to tactile controls. Lexus says the revised gear lever has been repositioned to better align with the habits of younger Chinese customers. The refreshed interior also introduces new aesthetic options, including the Snowy Night White and two-tone Tanzanite Snow Night themes. Lexus has incorporated a Silver Lance Moon Ridge trim option for added customisation.
While the updated ES is currently exclusive to the Chinese market, Lexus has not clarified whether these changes will make their way to other regions, including the United States and India. The U.S. market’s ES has already entered the 2025 model year, suggesting that this facelift might not reach American shores until at least the 2026 model year, if at all.
