Maruti Suzuki’s ability to sustain sales volumes highlights its unmatched scale and adaptability.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited’s latest sales figures underscore its resilient market leadership, even as its peers grapple with uneven performance. In August 2025, Maruti Suzuki reported total sales of 180,683 units, a modest 0.09% rise over July’s 180,526 units, reflecting stable month-on-month momentum. Year-on-year, however, the automaker saw a slight 0.6% dip from August 2024’s 181,782 units, driven by softer domestic demand partially offset by robust exports.

Domestically, Maruti Suzuki’s August sales of 134,050 units represented an 8% decline from 145,570 units in the year-ago month, as Mini and Compact segment volumes fell 3% and Utility Vehicles contracted 14% year-on-year. Nevertheless, its export arm powered ahead with 36,538 units, up a striking 40% over August 2024, bolstering overall sales.

By contrast, Tata Motors posted 73,178 wholesale dispatches in August, marking a 2% year-on-year gain. Domestic dispatches, however, slipped 2% to 68,482 units, while Passenger Vehicle dispatches plunged 7%, offset by a 6% rise in Commercial Vehicles. Tata’s domestic PV MoM dispatches rose 2%, from 40,175 units in July to 41,001 units in August, hinting at early recovery before seasonal tailwinds.

Hyundai Motor India Limited faced headwinds, with combined domestic and export sales of 60,501 units, down 4.3% year-on-year from 63,175 units. Domestic volumes dipped 11% to 44,001 units, while exports soared 21% to 16,500 units; overall, this translates to a 4.2% sales contraction versus August 2024. The month-on-month trend remains muted as the company readies its new Venue SUV to reinvigorate sales.

Mahindra & Mahindra continued to struggle, with Passenger Vehicle sales down 9% year-on-year to 39,399 units and MoM volumes plunging as it deferred wholesale dispatches amid GST uncertainty.

Maruti Suzuki’s ability to sustain sales volumes, driven by an expansive model line-up spanning entry-level cars to SUVs and strong export growth, highlights its unmatched scale and adaptability. As the festive season approaches, the automaker’s healthy order bank and nimble supply chain will be pivotal in consolidating its dominance, even as rivals seek footholds through new launches and export-led strategies.
