Given its recent backing of KTM, we hope that the situation improves for Bajaj.

Bajaj Auto reported that it sold 1,83,415 units of two-wheelers and commercial three-wheelers last month. This helped push the total year-to-date production to 25,66,211 units this financial year, which is already 3 per cent more than what it retailed during the same period, last year.

In the domestic market alone Bajaj cumulatively retailed 21,24,590 units of motorcycles and scooters, along with 4,41,621 units of commercial vehicles, till date. This marks a marginal 3 per cent growth for both the segments from April, 2024 to February, 2025.

The launch of the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z last year was a bold move from Bajaj Auto last year, that proved subu-400 cc, performance-oriented bikes need not be expensive.

However, on a year-to-year basis, Bajaj sold 14 per cent less bikes and scooters last month at 1,46,138 units. This was even less than Bajaj's export figures, which stood at 1,53,280 units last month, which was simultaneously 23 per cent more than the 1,24,157 units Bajaj exported last year, in the same month. But at the same time, commercial vehicle exports declined by 2 per cent Y-o-Y last month, though.

However, Bajaj has had a pretty strong start with the Freedom 125, it’s first CNG motorcycle for the world. Coupled with the biggest Pulsar till date, the Pulsar NS400Z, Bajaj Auto has quite the diverse portfolio on offer today. This should help its case to rake in more steady sales, and at the same time maintain a positive curve for FY 25-26, hopefully.

The recent investment into KTM by Bajaj to save it from going bankrupt is not expected to take a toll on domestic production for the company.

Recently, Bajaj also announced that it has dispersed ₹1,364 crore to Pierer Bajaj AG, which holds 75 per cent stake in Pierer Mobility AG, the parent of KTM. This investment will be made available to KTM in the form of equity or preference capital, or loan, which is currently in deep financial troubles. The Austrian bikemaker is currently under self-administration mode since its facing the daunting task of clearing €2.5-2.9 billion (₹22,537 to ₹26,143 crore).
