Hyundai said SUVs accounted for a record 71.8 per cent of its monthly domestic sales, the highest since Hyundai started operations in India.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has reported total sales of 60,073 units in July 2025, of which 43,973 units were sold in the domestic market and 16,100 units were exported. Although these figures represent consistent month-on-month performance, the company has pointed out that SUVs accounted for a record 71.8 per cent of its monthly domestic sales, the highest since Hyundai started operations in India.

Creta Remains Core to Hyundai's India Story
Celebrating its 10th anniversary last month, the Creta continues to be the primary driver of Hyundai’s SUV dominance. Since its launch in 2015, over 1.2 million units have been sold in India. In 2025 so far (January–July), the Creta has maintained its best-selling status in the compact SUV category despite intensified competition from rivals such as the Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, and Honda Elevate, among others.

This robust performance is attributed to Hyundai's regular model updates, variant extensions, and feature enhancements. The 2024 facelift gave the Creta a fresh new design and included ADAS Level 2, ventilated seats, a new digital cockpit, and a panoramic sunroof as standard across higher variants, reinforcing its attractiveness to urban and semi-urban consumers.
With SUVs accounting for almost 72 per cent of July's domestic sales volume, Hyundai's SUV-biased lineup is undoubtedly finding favour with customers. While the Creta is dominant, it is complemented by the Venue, Exter, and Tucson, each contributing to sales in a different sub-segment.

Hyundai exported 16,100 units in July 2025, highlighting its status in India as a global exporter. The company continues to serve the Latin America, Africa, and Middle East markets with its Indian manufacturing operations. While there was no major month-on-month spike, exports remain a key de-risking lever in Hyundai’s India strategy.
While SUVs rule the roost, Hyundai sedans and hatchbacks, especially the Aura, i20, and Verna, are under increasing pressure due to shifting consumer preferences. As industry volumes are falling in these segments, Hyundai, like other major players, is seeing volume move away from sedans and hatchbacks to higher-riding crossovers and SUVs.

Hyundai is positive about the remainder of FY26, particularly with the festive season right around the corner. It is preparing to ramp up production and is planning new launches. Its Talegaon plant in Maharashtra continues to be a key part of Hyundai's strategy to increase production capacity and future-proof in preparation for wider EV adoption.
The Talegaon factory, which was bought from General Motors, is set to be operational by 2026 and will serve for both ICE and EV production. Hyundai has made heavy investments here, reinforcing India's strategic position as a manufacturing and export platform.
While Hyundai has announced that it expects to localise EV production in 2026, July did not bring any major news on this front. The Ioniq 5, Hyundai’s halo EV offering, continues to be sold in low volumes due to its premium pricing. However, the company's roadmap suggests a more aggressive push into affordable EVs is coming post-2025, once operations commence at the Talegaon plant.
