Maruti Suzuki India sold a total of 178,083 units in May 2023.
Maruti Suzuki India achieved a significant milestone in May 2023, with total vehicle sales reaching 178,083 units. This represents a commendable growth rate of 10.33 percent compared to the sales figure of 161,413 units in the corresponding month of the previous year. The overall sales performance comprised domestic sales of 146,596 units, sales to other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) totaling 5,010 units, and exports amounting to 26,477 units. However, there was a slight decline of 2.63 percent in exports, dropping from 27,191 units to 26,477 units year-on-year (YoY).
Addressing the impact of electronic component shortages on vehicle production, Maruti Suzuki India stated in a regulatory filing that, despite the challenges, the company implemented various measures to minimise disruptions.
Within the Passenger Vehicle (PV) segment, Maruti Suzuki India experienced a noteworthy YoY growth of 15.45 per cent in domestic sales, with 143,708 units sold compared to 124,474 units in the same period last year. The Mini and Compact sub-segment, which includes popular models like the Maruti Suzuki Alto and Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, saw a decrease in sales by 29.71 percent, reaching 12,236 units as opposed to 17,408 units in May 2022.
However, the sales of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz exhibited a remarkable surge of 69.28 percent, increasing from 586 units to 992 units compared to the corresponding month last year.
The Utility Vehicles category, encompassing models such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, and Maruti Suzuki XL6, witnessed impressive sales of 46,243 units. This marked a substantial YoY growth rate of 64.85 percent, surpassing the previous year's sales of 28,051 units.
Conversely, Maruti Suzuki's Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV), Super Carry, experienced a decline of 18.09 percent, with sales falling from 3,526 units to 2,888 units during the same period.
