The overall monthly performance was affected by a routine biannual maintenance shutdown at the company’s Chennai manufacturing plant.
Hyundai Motor India Limited reported total sales of 58,701 units in May 2025. This includes 43,861 units sold in the domestic market and 14,840 units exported to global markets. The overall monthly performance was affected by a routine biannual maintenance shutdown at the company’s Chennai manufacturing plant, which impacted the availability of select high-volume models.
The domestic sales figure of 43,861 units reflects a month influenced by constrained production due to the scheduled week-long plant maintenance. While Hyundai has not disclosed a direct year-on-year or month-on-month comparison in this release, the temporary production halt likely limited deliveries of key models such as the Creta, Venue, and Exter. May has historically been one of the lower-volume months for the manufacturer due to this planned operational pause.

Despite this production constraint, Hyundai has maintained a strong position in the compact SUV and premium hatchback segments. However, the full extent of the impact on model-wise sales or market share will become clearer once industry-wide figures are available.
Hyundai’s exports stood at 14,840 units in May 2025, showing continued strength in overseas demand. While year-on-year comparison data was not disclosed in the statement, the company emphasised consistent growth in outbound shipments. This aligns with HMIL's broader strategy to position India as a key global export hub under its "Make in India, Made for the World" initiative.
Hyundai has been expanding its export portfolio with models such as the Grand i10, Aura, and Verna being key contributors to its global volumes. The company has also been ramping up shipments to Latin America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific markets in recent quarters.

Commenting on the performance, Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer of HMIL, acknowledged the impact of the biannual plant shutdown but expressed optimism about future demand recovery. “We continue to witness consistent growth in our export volume... Going forward, we remain hopeful of a steady increase in demand for both domestic as well as international shipments with reduced uncertainty on the geo-political front and improved macro-economic situation,” he stated.
