Passenger vehicle (PV) sales stood at 135,962 units, compared to 144,002 units a year ago, reflecting a contraction of 5.6 per cent.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited reported total sales of 180,077 units in May 2025, marking a 3.2% year-over-year increase from the 174,551 units sold in May 2024. The growth was primarily driven by a sharp increase in export volumes, despite a decline in domestic sales across several key segments. In the domestic market, Maruti Suzuki sold 138,690 units (including passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles), down from 146,694 units in May 2024 — a 5.5 per cent year-on-year decline. Passenger vehicle (PV) sales stood at 135,962 units, compared to 144,002 units a year ago, reflecting a contraction of 5.6 per cent.
The entry-level Mini segment, which includes models like the Alto and S-Presso, saw a significant drop of 31.6 per cent, with sales at 6,776 units in May 2025 compared to 9,902 units in the same month last year. The Compact segment — home to high-volume models such as the Swift, Baleno, and WagonR — recorded a 9.8 per cent decline, falling to 61,502 units from 68,206 units last year.
Cumulatively, the Mini and Compact segments together contributed 68,278 units, down 12.6 per cent from 78,108 units in May 2024. Mid-size sedan Ciaz also continued its slide, with sales dropping to 458 units in May 2025 — a 37.3 per cent decline year-on-year.
In contrast to shrinking sales in hatchbacks and sedans, the SUV segment provided some relief. Maruti’s SUV/MPV portfolio — including the Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, and Fronx — recorded 54,899 units sold in May 2025, showing a marginal year-on-year growth of 1.3 per cent from 54,204 units in May 2024.
The Eeco van also showed resilience, growing 12.5 per cent YoY to 12,327 units from 10,960 in May 2024. The Super Carry light commercial vehicle saw a minor increase, rising to 2,728 units from 2,692 units, registering 1.3 per cent growth.
Sales to other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) stood at 10,168 units, down 3.1 per cent from 10,490 units in May 2024. However, cumulative OEM sales for April-May FY26 grew 25.2 per cent to 19,995 units, compared to 15,971 units in the corresponding period last fiscal.
The standout figure in Maruti Suzuki’s May 2025 performance was its export tally. The company shipped 31,219 units abroad during the month — an impressive 79.7 per cent jump from 17,367 units in May 2024. The year-to-date export figure also showed strong momentum, with 59,130 units dispatched in April–May FY26, up 49.6 per cent from 39,527 units a year earlier.
Despite the robust export performance, Maruti’s total domestic sales (including OEM and LCV) for April–May FY26 stood at 300,738 units, marginally down from 303,113 units in the same period last year. However, total cumulative sales, including exports, rose to 359,868 units, showing a 5 per cent increase over 342,640 units in April–May FY25.
