Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) reported that it sold a total of 4,92,884 units last month, indicating a growth of 10 per cent compared to the same month the previous year. The company recorded a 9 per cent growth in the domestic market with 4,62,747 units, while its exports increased by 29 per cent with sales of 30,137 units during the same period.
HMSI maintains its top spot in the scooter market, led by the Activa brand. In H1 FY2024, they dispatched 1.28 million Activas (109.5 cc and 124 cc), a 4 per cent YoY decline, reducing their scooter market share to 44.81 per cent from 48.56 per cent in April-September 2022.
In the motorcycle segment, HMSI sold 9,21,863 units, marking a 5 per cent decline. Yet, their entry-level bikes, the Livo and Shine, saw a strong rebound with 1,56,762 units sold, a 40 per cent Y-o-Y increase. The CB Shine and SP125 recorded 6,05,472 units, down 17 per cent from H1 FY2023's 7,31,120 units.
In the 150 cc-200 cc category, Honda's bike sales surged by 33 per cent to 1,38,264 units in H1 FY2024 compared to 1,03,950 units in the previous year. Notably, the CBR300 and H’Ness 350 contributed 21,365 units, a 5.5 per cent growth over H1 FY2023. Nevertheless, overall bike sales declined.
Regarding new product launches, HMSI introduced the 2023 CB300R, which is OBD2A compliant and starts at ₹ 2.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Customers can book this Neo-Sports Café Roadster at their nearest BigWing dealerships. The company also unveiled updated versions of the H’ness CB350 and CB350RS in Legacy Edition and New Hue Edition variants, priced at ₹2,16,356 and ₹2,19,357 respectively (ex-showroom, Delhi). In addition, they launched the XL750 Transalp, an all-new adventure tourer, and initiated bookings for the first 100 customers in select cities.
Honda crossed the 3 million customer mark in Kerala marking a milestone. Additionally, the company's Shine brand in the 125cc motorcycle segment reached a customer base of 3 million in western India.
