Tata Motors continues to post solid sales figures, beginning Q3 FY2025-26 on a positive note. The homegrown automaker posted a monthly volume of 74,705 units in October 2025, including domestic and exports of passenger vehicles as well as commercial vehicles. This resulted in almost a 23 percent MoM growth and a 54 percent jump YoY. During the same period, Mahindra and Hyundai recorded a volume of 66,800 units and 65,045 units, respectively.

These numbers are taken from the VAHAAN portal and indicate a very productive month for Tata Motors. Multiple reasons can be attributed towards this growth in volume. For starters, October is the peak month of the Indian festive season with major celebrations like Dussehra, Dhanteras, and Diwali coinciding within the same month.

Indian consumers generally consider this period as the most auspicious time for buying a car. Also, manufacturers and dealers tend to bring in maximum footfall to showrooms by offering attractive discounts and offers. The other big reason is the reduction of GST rates and abolition of cess that came into effect from 22 September this year.

October marked the first full month of operation following the revised GST structure. Under the new tax structure, small passenger vehicles with engine capacities up to 1,200 cc for petrol and 1,500 cc for diesel now attract a reduced GST rate of 18 percent, down from the earlier 28% plus cess. Larger cars and SUVs continue to be taxed at 40 percent. This revision has led to price reductions ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹1.6 lakh across different vehicle segments.

New car launches boost Tata’s case

The positive consumer sentiment will most likely be extended into the month of November, not just for Tata but for most PV OEMs in India. What also helps Tata’s case are the recent launches that have generally received positive feedback from industry and consumers alike. Models like the updated Tata Altroz and the all-new Harrier.ev seemed to have struck a chord with the consumers, the latter being appreciated for its value offering in a segment that is still growing.

Tata Sierra

In fact, Tata Motors laid out its ambitious plan for the coming few years, as part of which the company will involve as many as 30 product launches, including seven brand new models and 23 mid-cycle updates. The next big launch by Tata will be the all-new Sierra which is slated to make its debut later this month.
