MG Motor has unveiled its latest electric vehicle concept, the Cyber X, at the 2025 Auto Shanghai, marking a bold new chapter in the brand’s design and product strategy. The Cyber X previews what could become the second model in MG’s futuristic “Cyber” series, following the Cyberster electric roadster.
Designed with an urban-focused audience in mind, the Cyber X blends boxy, rugged styling with an unmistakable retro-futuristic edge. Measuring approximately 4.3 metres in length, the concept is dimensionally similar to the Land Rover Defender 90, but is purposefully engineered not as a traditional off-roader, but as what MG describes as a “city adventure toy.”
Visually, the Cyber X makes an assertive statement. It features pop-up headlights— a rare feature in today’s design landscape — and a matte black finish that underlines its concept status. A wide grille, high-mounted LED light bar, and smoked A- and B-pillars help create a “floating roof” effect. Dual-tone alloys and privacy glass round out the SUV’s premium urban aesthetic.
Design chief Jozef Kaban, formerly of BMW and Skoda, explained that the Cyber X was conceived to contrast the sleek, performance-oriented Cyberster. “The Cyber X is about giving families an emotional car,” said Kaban, adding that the model is intended to appeal to style-conscious buyers who don’t want to trade aesthetics for practicality.
Built on a bespoke electric platform developed by MG’s parent company, SAIC Motor, the Cyber X employs a cell-to-body battery integration system, which enhances both cabin space and efficiency. While MG did not confirm powertrain or battery specifications, the vehicle is expected to support the brand’s latest EV drivetrain technology, likely targeting urban range requirements with high-efficiency gains.
While the cabin remains under wraps, MG has confirmed a technology partnership with Oppo, the smartphone manufacturer, for cockpit connectivity and digital integration. This is in line with the Cyber series’ tech-savvy positioning. The Cyber X is expected to feature a digital cockpit optimised for smart device connectivity, voice control, and real-time cloud integration.
Though officially a concept, MG hinted that the Cyber X may be fast-tracked to production — a common trend in China’s high-speed automotive development cycle. If launched, it would join MG’s expanding global EV portfolio, which aims to feature at least eight electric models by 2026, spanning sedans, crossovers, and SUVs.
If brought to India, the Cyber X would likely compete directly with the upcoming Tata Sierra EV. Both vehicles fall within the 4.3 to 4.4-metre range and share a similar retro-futuristic design philosophy aimed at lifestyle buyers. MG, already a key EV player in India with the ZS EV and Comet EV, could use the Cyber X to further cement its position among urban family buyers seeking a blend of style, tech, and utility in an electric package.
