The facility in Manaus is the first one in the region by an Indian two-wheeler manufacturer.
Bajaj Auto has become the first Indian manufacturer to establish a manufacturing plant in Manaus, Brazil. This has helped expand Bajaj’s footprint, and the Chakan-based two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturer now sells in 100 countries.
The ISO-certified facility has been designed with advanced, automated production lines and quality control systems. The facility will include everything from engine to vehicle assembly and even testing facilities. All of which will be connected by multiple conveyor and transfer systems.
Spread over 9,600 sq.m, the plant currently has a production capacity of 20,000 units per year, and later on, the brand plans to expand to 50,000 units per year. The Manaus facility is also strategically located in proximity to supply chains and major transportation hubs. Bajaj has already integrated local suppliers and has begun sourcing key motorcycle parts and components from within the area.
Construction for the Manaus Bajaj plant started last year in June, and in the initial phase, Bajaj concentrated on the sourcing, assembly and testing of Dominar models only. For the uninitiated, Bajaj NS200 and NS160 models are sold in Brazil under the ‘Dominar’ moniker. More Pulsar models are also scheduled for production there now that the facility is complete and running
Speaking on the occasion of this new facility Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto Pvt. Ltd said, “The new manufacturing capabilities will enable us to build a wider distribution network, introduce new products and meet the growing expectations of our customers.”
“This plant also signals our commitment to Brazil, to building an ecosystem of partnerships and integrating further into the automotive industry. We are excited to be part of Brazil's growth story and look forward to a prosperous future here," he concluded.
