The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter has surpassed sales of TVS iQube and Ola Electric scooters to take the baton.
In a recent interview, Rajiv Bajaj has claimed that the Chetak has become the largest-selling electric scooter in the country. The bossman cited the latest Vahan figures to make the claim, with a typical Rajiv Bajaj-esque cheeky remark to accompany: “Ola toh Ola hain, Chetak to Shola hain.”
This accomplishment has to be taken with a pinch of salt, though. Bajaj claims that it is pertaining to Chetaks sold in December, which as of writing this article is just nine days into the month. However, displacing Ola Electric from its lead has taken work. Bajaj Auto consistently kept on gaining more market share. The main credit should go to the variety of Chetak trims that Bajaj Auto launched this year. From the 2903 to the 3202 – the Chetak range quickly expanded quite a bit. Coupled with its strong service network that was further backed up by reliability. In fact, the top three players were just separated by a single per cent each in the market share pie chart.
On the other hand, Ola has being riddled with several issues pertaining to its scooters. And after an impressive festive period run, Ola’s market share fell to 24 per cent in November, when it retailed just 27.746 scooters, which were nowhere close to the 40,000 units it retailed in October 2024.
While we are still awaiting confirmation of the exact market share that Bajaj Auto now holds in the electric two-wheeler space. With a new Chetak scooter set to launch soon, Bajaj seems poised to retain this lead for some time as of now.
