Are the funky looks of the new Bajaj Pulsar N125 enough to take on the Hero Xtreme 125R?
Bajaj seems to be on a mission to dominate the 125 cc segment and the brand is leaving no stones unturned. To that extent, its latest offering, the brand new Pulsar N125, is its funkiest offering yet. But underneath that exciting body style, is the Bajaj Pulsar N125 packing in enough fire power and componentsto take on the Hero MotoCorp’s Xtreme 125R? Let’s find that out.
Specification | Bajaj Pulsar N125 | Hero Xtreme 125R |
Engine | 124.58 cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder | 124.7 cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder |
Power | 11.83 bhp @ 8,500 rpm | 11.4 bhp @ 8,250 rpm |
Torque | 11 Nm @ 6,000 rpm | 10.5 Nm @ 6,500 rpm |
Transmission | 5-speed | 5-speed |
With a bigger bore, and longer stroke, the Bajaj Pulsar N125 is marginally more powerful than the Hero Xtreme 125R. So, while Hero MotoCorp claims that the Xtreme 125R can do the 0-60 kmph acceleration run in just under 6 seconds, we can expect the same from the Pulsar N125, if not quicker. Either way, both bikes are available with a 5-speed gearbox as standard – so from a mechanical standpoint, the Bajaj Pulsar N125 is really not that more powerful than the Hero Xtreme 125R.
Specification | Bajaj Pulsar N125 | Hero Xtreme 125R |
Front Suspension | Telescopic Fork | Telescopic fork |
Rear Suspension | Monoshock | Monoshock |
Front Brake | 240 mm Disc brake | 240/ 276 mm Disc brake |
Rear Brake | 130 mm Drum brake | 130 mm Drum brake |
Both the bikes have similar underpinnings, wherein both the Pulsar N125 and Hero Xtreme 125R equip telescopic fork and monoshock. However, when it comes to its brakes, the Hero Xtreme 125R is available with a slightly bigger front disc only when you choose the top-spec Xtreme 125R which has ABS. Unfortunately, the Bajaj Pulsar N125 is not available with ABS, and it gets CBS (Combi-brake System), instead. Either way, both bikes are again available with disc/ drum brake combination.
Specification | Bajaj Pulsar N125 | Hero Xtreme 125R |
Length | NA | 2009 mm |
Width | NA | 793 mm |
Height | NA | 1051 mm |
Ground Clearance | 198 mm | 180 mm |
Wheelbase | 1295 mm | 1319 mm |
Fuel Tank Capacity | 9.5-litres | 10-litres |
Kerb Weight | 125 kg | 136 kg |
Seat Height | 795 mm | 794 mm |
With a smaller fuel tank, and smaller footprint – the Bajaj Pulsar N125 ends up being much lighter than the Honda Xtreme 125R. While we don’t have the overall length, width and height of the Pulsar N125, its shorter wheelbase can be taken as an indication that it will be the more agile of the two. Coupled with the fact that it’s almost 11 kg lighter, the new Bajaj Pulsar N125 presents itself as a nice flickable bike too. Lastly, despite that high ground clearance, the Bajaj Pulsar N125 has a similar accessible height as the Hero Xtreme 125R – which is pretty impressive.
Both the Bajaj Pulsar N125 and Hero Xtreme 125R are available with big monochrome fully digital LCD screens which supports Bluetooth connectivity. Connectivity feature options are also the same, where both get call/SMS and notification alerts and misses out on turn-by-turn navigation. However, the Xtreme 125R does get the advantage of a USB C-type charging port.
Bajaj Auto has been the king of pricing and the new Pulsar N125 hits the bulls eye. Available in two variants – LED with Disc and LED Disc BT variant – wherein the former is priced at ₹94,707, and the latter will set you back by ₹98,707. The Hero Xtreme 125R starts from ₹95,000, while the top-spec model with ABS costs ₹99,500.
So, although the price difference between the two 125 cc bikes isn’t that much – the Bajaj Pulsar N125 ends up being marginally better than the Hero MotoCorp with slightly more power, and a much lighter body, Coupled with the fact, if you are a fan of funky colour options, its the Pulsar N125 that delivers on that front, while the Hero Xtreme 125R prefers the reserved route. With the qdvent of the new Pulsar N125, the Xtreme 125R squares up against a fierce competitor.
