Despite becoming the highest-selling electric two-wheeler brand in the country, Bajaj has no plans to slow down.
2024 saw Bajaj’s all-electric division grow from strength to strength. It finally culminated with Bajaj snatching the top position from Ola Electric by selling the most Chetaks in a month (December). And while the launch of the Chetak 35 series, which is bigger, more practical and more efficient than before, acted as the perfect cherry on top of the cake – the brand has no plans to slow down. In fact, Abraham Joseph, Managing Director of Chetak Technology Ltd., confirmed in an interview that 2025 will see the launch of more Chetak variants. These variants might come with different battery sizes, and thereby at different price points.
Currently, the new Bajaj Chetak 35 series has three variants – 3501, 3502, and 3503. The first is the most premium variant priced at ₹1.27 lakh, while the mid-variant 3502 will set you back by ₹1.20 lakh (both ex-showroom prices in Bengaluru). Prices for the base 3503 variant are yet to be revealed, so there goes your one pending launch in 2025 from Bajaj Auto, which we expect should happen soon.
Abraham Joseph also addressed the viability of electric motorcycles. While the probability of an electric Bajaj Pulsar can be entertained, Joseph stressed how something like that won’t be Bajaj’s current focus. The MD believes that the limited scope of practicality that comes with an electric motorcycle needs a solution first. Furthermore, he also mentioned how popular electric bikes in the country are mostly trying to come across as a better alternative to 100-125 cc bikes. And in reality, Bajaj’s Freedom 125 CNG bike and Platina are already delivering on that front.
The new Bajaj Chetak 35 series, launched last month in 2024, has garnered quite the attention. Built around an entirely new platform which houses the bigger 3.5 kWh battery inside the floorboard and thereby ends up with a big 35-litre boot space – it is one of the biggest highlights here. Plus, the scooter has also become longer than before, thus making it more spacious than ever. Lastly, there’s a new TFT cluster on board, making it the first Chetak to gain this console.
