Bengaluru is slated to become a prominent market for producing Li-Ion batteries and cells in India.
Bengaluru is swiftly positioning itself as a thriving lithium-ion battery and cell manufacturing centre. Over the past year, four key projects have taken root in the region leading experts to believe in the state's potential to be a major battery production hub in India.
The US-based International Battery Company (IBC) and the Karnataka state government recently signed an agreement to establish a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly lithium-ion battery manufacturing unit.
As per a Bloomberg report, IBC has committed to infusing a staggering $1 billion into the southern Indian state of Karnataka, starting with an upcoming factory sprawling across a 100-acre expanse within the Bengaluru Rural district. This state-of-the-art Li-Ion battery facility is set to commence production by 2025
Another key player in the sector, Exide, has also outlined its plans for a multi-gigawatt-hour lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility proposed at Hi-Tech Defence and Aerospace Park in Bengaluru with over INR 6,000 crore earmarked for investments.
Similarly, NSure Reliable Power Solutions is establishing a giga factory near Bengaluru with an investment of over INR 1,050 crores. The company is expecting to commence operations as early as October.
With key players making strategic investments, Bengaluru is slated to become a prominent market for producing Li-Ion batteries and cells in the near future.
